We are looking for an experienced Technical Leader who is passionate about building scalable, reliable, and high-performing backend systems. Key Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a team of engineers, establishing best practices, coding standards, and a culture of continuous improvement.
- Collaborate closely with frontend teams, product managers, DevOps engineers, and other stakeholders to design and deliver scalable technical solutions.
- Architect, develop, and maintain reliable backend services and APIs using Node.js, TypeScript, and modern backend frameworks.
- Design scalable system architectures that support high availability, strong performance, security, and zero-downtime deployments.
- Drive technical decisions and take ownership of the backend roadmap, balancing speed, scalability, and long-term code quality.
- Ensure the reliability and maintainability of backend systems through effective testing, monitoring, logging, and incident management practices.
- Leverage AI tools and emerging technologies to increase team efficiency, improve developer experience, and enhance the end-user product.
- Participate in and lead discussions about new technologies, proactively identifying opportunities to innovate and evolve our technology stack.
- Act as a bridge between engineering and product, translating business requirements into robust and scalable backend solutions.
Skills & Qualifications
- 6+ years of experience in Backend Development, with at least 4 years in a lead role.
- Strong proficiency in TypeScript, Node.js, and backend frameworks such as NestJS or Express.js.
- Proven experience designing, building, and maintaining scalable APIs, services, and distributed systems.
- Strong knowledge of relational and non-relational databases, data modelling, and query optimisation.
- Experience working with cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS, and an understanding of containerisation, CI/CD, and infrastructure as code.
- Solid understanding of event-driven architecture, messaging systems, and asynchronous processing. Experience with technologies such as Apache Kafka is an advantage.
- Demonstrated experience with AI tools and workflows, you know how to integrate AI into the development process to move faster and work smarter.
- Experience leading or mentoring developers, conducting code reviews, and setting technical direction.
- Good understanding of frontend concepts to collaborate effectively with frontend developers.
- Strong knowledge of software security, testing strategies, observability, and performance optimisation.
