About the Team

The Software Operations team is at the heart of how Nuro's autonomy software gets built right. They own QC, tool testing, and bug reproduction across labeling workflows, and they care deeply about the craft of doing that work well. You'll sit inside this team, learn the work firsthand, and help build the systems that make quality achievable at scale.

You'll report directly to the Head of Software Operations with real access, real context, and a genuine mandate to make things better.

About the Role

This is a process and standards role for someone who loves finding what's broken and fixing it for good. You'll spend time embedded with the in-house team, then turn what you learn into sharper procedures, cleaner rubrics, and a taxonomy that actually fits the work. You'll also keep our offshore QC vendor team calibrated to the same standards.

About the Work

In your first 90 days, you'll:

- Build working knowledge of the in-house team's workflow, deep enough to explain the hard parts

- Deliver a reviewed, revised set of procedures and rubrics with at least one major area implemented

- Present a clean taxonomy audit and revision proposal to the Head of Software Operations

- Get the offshore team calibrated and working from current standards

- Establish a proactive, regular cadence of improvement recommendations to leadership

Procedures and Rubrics

- Review and refine QC, tool testing, and bug reproduction procedures end-to-end

- Improve grading rubrics so they are unambiguous and consistent across every reviewer

- Identify gaps where rubrics fail on real-world cases and implement concrete fixes

- Maintain clean version history so every change is traceable

Taxonomy and Categorization

- Audit the classification framework used for defects, labeling outputs, and operational findings

- Resolve ambiguities, overlaps, and gaps with structured, documented revisions

- Track how the taxonomy is applied in practice and catch drift before it compounds

Embedded Observation

- Work alongside the in-house team to learn tools, handoffs, and edge cases firsthand

- Surface patterns that are only visible from inside the work: recurring confusion, inconsistent rubric application, procedural steps that get skipped

- Translate observations into actionable recommendations on a regular cadence to the Head of Software Operations

Offshore Vendor Alignment

- Keep the offshore QC vendor team working from current procedures, rubrics, and taxonomy

- Run calibration sessions to surface and close gaps between internal and offshore application

- Build strong working relationships with vendor account managers so issues surface early

Documentation

- Own documentation that is current, accessible, and not dependent on any one person to maintain

- Manage clean rollouts so updates are adopted consistently across internal and offshore teams

About You

You likely have:

- 4+ years in project management, operations, process design, or QA in a software or tech environment

- A track record of improving procedures, rubrics, or classification frameworks, not just executing against them

- Sharp pattern recognition and the communication skills to turn observations into clear recommendations

- Strong written communication: your procedures and rubrics leave no room for misreading

- Comfort with tools like Notion, Confluence, Airtable, Jira, or similar

Even better if you have:

- Experience in robotics, autonomy, mapping, or visual software environments

- Familiarity with U.S. roadways and driving behavior

- Experience coordinating offshore or distributed contractor teams

- A background in taxonomy, ontology, or classification system design

- Experience running inter-rater reliability or calibration programs

Autonomy software is being built right now, and the systems supporting that work need to keep up. The improvements you make here will be felt by the engineers, the QC team, and ultimately in the reliability of what Nuro ships into the world.

At Nuro, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. For this position the reasonably expected annualized base salary range is $87,000-$118,000. Offers are based on an individual’s experience, education, location, and skills.
