About this role

Job Purpose
 
Preschool Library Assistant plays a key role in supporting the effective day-to-day operation of the Preschool Library, helping to create a welcoming, organised and engaging environment that fosters a love of books and reading. The role supports children, teachers and families in accessing library resources and ensures that materials are well maintained, appropriately organised and readily available.

Key Accountabilities

- Manage day-to-day library operations, resources and borrowing.

- Supervise library users and help maintain the physical appearance of the library.

- Work collaboratively with Preschool teaching staff to ensure the library collection supports the Preschool curriculum.

- Prepare collections or displays of books for particular topics, celebrations, languages or areas of learning.

- Maintain a working collaboration with the main school library and support where needed.

- Contribute flexibly to wider school activities and events while maintaining high standards of safeguarding, confidentiality, health and safety, and professional practice.

- Shelve library books and materials daily.

- All other responsibilities and tasks as deemed appropriate by SMT and the Line Manager.

Knowledge and experience

- Experience working in a school or library environment an advantage.

- Flexible and willing to support a range of library activities.

- Comfortable organizing, sorting, and maintaining collections of books and educational resources.

- Ability to follow schedules and manage daily routines and tasks efficiently.

Technical and soft skills

- Warm, organised, proactive and collaborative, with strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with young children, families and colleagues.

- Willingness to learn and use library and other digital systems (no prior library system experience required).
