About this role

Position Overview
APEX is currently accepting applications for an  Electro-Mechanical Technician to join our  Product Development and Automation Group . This is a  full-time position  reporting to the Lead-Hand / Operations Manager. This role is responsible for the integrated assembly, wiring, and installation of electro-mechanical systems used in optical coating machines. The Electro-Mechanical Technician bridges mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic disciplines, supporting full system builds from subassembly through final integration, testing, and commissioning support.

Responsibilities

1. Electro-Mechanical Assembly  
- Assemble electro-mechanical subsystems including motion assemblies, actuators, sensors, and mounted electrical hardware. 
- Install motors, encoders, limit switches, heaters, and instrumentation onto mechanical structures and vacuum equipment. 
- Ensure proper fit, alignment, and serviceability of integrated assemblies. 
2. Electrical Wiring & Interconnect  
- Install, route, and terminate power, control, and signal wiring in accordance with electrical schematics and wiring diagrams. 
- Perform cable routing, labeling, strain relief, grounding, and cable management to quality standards. 
- Support control cabinet wiring and system interconnect between cabinets and field devices. 
3. Pneumatic & Fluid System Assembly  
- Install pneumatic components such as valves, regulators, gauges, flow devices, and actuators. 
- Route, cut, label, and connect pneumatic tubing and hoses per diagrams and best practices. 
- Support leak checking, pressure testing, and troubleshooting of pneumatic systems. 
4. Mechanical Assembly & Integration  
- Assemble mechanical structures, frames, brackets, vacuum hardware, and mounting systems as required to support electrical and pneumatic installations. 
- Perform basic alignment to ensure proper operation of motion and process equipment. 
- Coordinate mechanical and electrical work to avoid interference and ensure clean system integration. 
5. System Testing & Troubleshooting  
- Support system-level testing include continuity checks, I/O verification, motion checkout, and basic functional testing. 
- Troubleshoot electro-mechanical issues identified during build and commissioning. 
- Work with engineering and commissioning teams to resolve integration challenges. 
6. Documentation & Continuous Improvement  
- Follow engineering drawings, schematics, BOMs, and work instructions accurately. 
- Provide feedback on design improvements, assembly challenges, and documentation updates. 
- Assist in maintaining accurate as-built documentation. 
- Adhere to electrical safety practices, lockout/tagout procedures, and mechanical safety requirements. 
- Follow vacuum cleanliness, ESD, and general shop safety standards. 
7. Collaboration & Teamwork  
- Work closely with mechanical assemblers, electrical technicians, engineers, and commissioning staff. 
- Support cross-functional integration efforts to meet project schedules and quality goals. 
- Contribute to a team-oriented culture focused on accountability, craftsmanship, and continuous improvement.

Requirements
- Diploma in Mechanical /Electrical Engineering Technology or equivalent work experience in industrial automation or manufacturing environments.
- Computer experience with Windows based applications.
- Previous experience using oscilloscopes and multi-meters.
- Previous experience soldering electrical connections
- Experience using mechanical measurement equipment including calipers, depth gauges, dial indicators.
- Capable of reading electrical schematics, pneumatic process diagrams and mechanical assembly drawings.
- Strong trouble shooting & diagnostic capabilities
- Attention to detail, and the ability to work across multiple technical domains.
- The ability and willingness to work independently and as part of a larger team.
- Experience operating a forklift is not required but would be an asset
