Small Animal Veterinary Emergency & Specialty (SAVES) is seeking an Assistant Hospital Manager to join our leadership team in Lebanon, NH. This full-time leadership opportunity is designed for an experienced manager ready to grow their career while helping lead the day-to-day operations, people, and performance of a fast-paced emergency and specialty veterinary hospital.
Working closely with the Hospital Manager and Medical Director, the Assistant Hospital Manager will support hospital operations, develop strong teams, improve workflows, and help create an environment where employees can do their best work and patients receive exceptional care.

Schedule
- Full-Time, 40 hours per week
- Flexible schedule based on the needs of the hospital
- Flexibility within the workweek if operational needs result in longer-than-anticipated days
Responsibilities
- Support the day-to-day operations of a 24/7 emergency and specialty veterinary hospital, helping ensure efficient patient and client flow across departments.
- Partner with department supervisors to manage staffing, scheduling, labor utilization, and changing operational needs.
- Coach, mentor, and develop supervisors, team members, and emerging leaders while supporting a collaborative and accountable workplace culture.
- Participate in recruitment, candidate interviews, onboarding, employee development, performance management, and engagement initiatives.
- Monitor hospital operations across shifts and work with department leaders to address operational challenges in real time.
- Champion an exceptional client experience and assist with client concerns and service recovery when needed.
- Support workforce planning by monitoring staffing levels, overtime, productivity, and labor trends.
- Participate in reviewing hospital performance, financial reports, operational metrics, labor expenses, and key performance indicators.
- Support inventory management, cost-control initiatives, and responsible use of hospital resources.
- Help ensure compliance with OSHA, DEA, controlled substance regulations, hospital policies, safety requirements, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
- Identify opportunities to improve hospital workflows, efficiency, quality, communication, and consistency.
- Lead and participate in process improvement, technology implementation, strategic projects, and organizational change initiatives.
- Help maintain a safe, organized, functional, and professional hospital environment, including facility and equipment readiness.
- Collaborate closely with the Hospital Manager, Medical Director, department supervisors, veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and support teams.
- Progressively assume greater responsibility for hospital operations, facility oversight, financial management, strategic planning, and organizational leadership.
- Exercise sound independent judgment in daily hospital operations and provide leadership on behalf of the Hospital Manager when appropriate.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of progressive leadership or management experience.
- Demonstrated experience supervising multiple teams or departments.
- Strong communication, organizational, critical-thinking, decision-making, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and remain calm and solutions-oriented in a fast-paced emergency environment.
- Experience coaching, mentoring, and developing employees and emerging leaders.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and hospital management software.
- Veterinary medicine leadership experience strongly preferred.
- Emergency or specialty veterinary hospital experience strongly preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Veterinary Technology, Management, or a related field preferred; equivalent leadership experience will be considered.
- CVT/LVT/RVT certification or equivalent clinical experience is a plus.
- Experience with budgeting, financial reporting, operational analytics, compliance, organizational change, or quality improvement is a plus.
- Knowledge of OSHA, DEA, controlled substance regulations, and veterinary compliance requirements is a plus.
- Fluent English speaking and reading skills required.
