About this role

Job Summary

The Engineering Supervisor supports the day-to-day engineering and maintenance operations of the hotel. The role is responsible for ensuring that all building facilities, M&E systems, equipment and hotel assets are maintained in safe, reliable and efficient working condition.

Key Responsibilities

1. Engineering & Maintenance Operations

- Assist in monitoring the condition and performance of the hotel's M&E systems, equipment, facilities and building infrastructure.
- Ensure timely response to engineering and maintenance requests from guests and hotel departments.
- Troubleshoot and coordinate repairs for electrical, plumbing, air-conditioning, mechanical and other building-related issues.
- Ensure all maintenance works are carried out safely, efficiently and according to hotel standards.
- Conduct regular inspections of guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house areas and plant rooms to identify maintenance issues.

2. Preventive Maintenance

- Assist in developing and implementing preventive maintenance schedules for hotel equipment and facilities.
- Ensure scheduled preventive maintenance is completed and properly documented.
- Monitor recurring breakdowns and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate records of equipment maintenance, repairs, servicing and replacement history.
- Assist in developing long-term maintenance and replacement plans for hotel assets.

3. Building Services & M&E Systems

- Assist in monitoring the operation and maintenance of key hotel systems, including:

Air-conditioning and ventilation systems
- Electrical systems
- Plumbing and water supply systems
- Pumps and water tanks
- Hot water systems
- Fire protection and fire alarm systems
- Lifts and escalators, where applicable
- Generators and emergency power systems
- Building management systems, where applicable

- Ensure all engineering systems operate safely, efficiently and within required standards.

4. Energy & Cost Management

- Monitor the hotel's electricity, water and other utility consumption.
- Assist in implementing energy-saving and cost-control initiatives.
- Identify opportunities to improve energy efficiency without compromising guest comfort or hotel operations.
- Monitor engineering-related expenses and assist in controlling maintenance costs.
- Recommend repair, replacement or upgrading of equipment based on cost effectiveness and operational requirements.

5. Contractors & Service Providers

- Coordinate and supervise external contractors and service providers carrying out maintenance, repair and project works.
- Ensure contractors comply with hotel safety requirements, work permits and relevant procedures.
- Verify completed works and service reports before submitting for approval.
- Monitor contractor performance and escalate any issues to the Engineering Manager.
- Assist in obtaining quotations and evaluating proposals for engineering-related works and services.

6. Safety & Statutory Compliance

- Ensure engineering operations comply with applicable safety, environmental and statutory requirements.
- Maintain proper documentation and records for inspections, servicing and statutory requirements.
- Assist in coordinating statutory inspections, testing and certification of relevant equipment and systems.
- Ensure proper safety procedures are followed during maintenance and engineering works.
- Report and follow up on any unsafe conditions, equipment defects or potential hazards.

7. Projects & Renovation Works

- Assist the Assistant Engineering Manager / Chief Engineer in managing engineering projects, renovation works and equipment replacement projects.
- Coordinate with contractors and other hotel departments to minimize disruption to hotel operations.
- Monitor project progress, workmanship, quality and completion timelines.
- Assist with testing and commissioning of new equipment and systems.

8. Team Supervision & Development

- Assist in supervising, coaching and developing Engineering team members.
- Allocate daily tasks and monitor the team's work progress.
- Provide technical guidance and support to Engineering team members when required.
- Promote teamwork, discipline, safety awareness and good maintenance practices within the department.
- Assist with staff training and performance evaluations.

9. Guest & Departmental Support

- Respond promptly to engineering-related guest complaints and requests.
- Work closely with Front Office, Housekeeping, and other departments to resolve maintenance issues.
- Maintain good communication with all departments to ensure minimal disruption to hotel operations.
- Provide technical support during hotel events, functions and operational activities when required.

10. Other Duties

- Prepare and maintain engineering reports, logs, records and documentation.
- Participate in emergency response, fire drills and other hotel safety activities.
- Assist in developing and updating Engineering Department SOPs and procedures.

Requirements

- Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Services, Facilities Management or a related field.
- Minimum 2 years of relevant engineering or maintenance experience , preferably in the hotel or hospitality industry.
- Experience in supervising an Engineering or Maintenance team is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of hotel M&E systems, building maintenance and preventive maintenance practices.
- Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Good understanding of workplace safety and statutory requirements.
- Experience in contractor and project management is an advantage.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Able to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced hotel environment.
- Willing to work shifts, weekends and public holidays when required.
- Able to respond to emergency maintenance situations when required.
