Job Title: Substation Quality Control Representative Job Description
This role serves as the on-site Substation Quality Control Representative for a large, multi-year renewable substation project in the East Arkansas area, with solar as the primary driver. You oversee construction and commissioning activities for substation and distribution projects, ensuring subcontractors deliver safe, high-quality work that meets all contractual, reporting, and schedule requirements. The position offers long-term project continuity, exposure to multiple utility clients, and the opportunity to support a growing portfolio of substation, distribution, and transmission line work.
Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate subcontractor crews in the construction of substation facilities, ensuring all work aligns with project plans, specifications, and quality standards.
- Drive subcontractor performance by setting clear expectations, monitoring progress, and taking proactive action to keep work on schedule and within scope.
- Oversee overall production and quality for assigned crews and work areas, ensuring that all construction activities meet established QA/QC requirements.
- Implement and maintain substation quality control processes, including inspections, documentation, and verification of work performed.
- Ensure subcontractors execute work in accordance with safety requirements, company standards, and applicable regulations, promoting a strong safety culture on site.
- Manage and verify construction documentation, including construction drawings, reports, and records, to support accurate tracking and compliance.
- Handle the reporting aspects of the project, including standardized reporting to the project team and stakeholders, and ensure reports are accurate, timely, and complete.
- Conduct and participate in construction meetings to communicate progress, issues, risks, and changes to the project team and relevant stakeholders.
- Support change management and risk management processes by identifying potential issues early and communicating them through the appropriate channels.
- Monitor adherence to contract requirements, standards, and schedules, and work with subcontractors to resolve deviations or nonconformances.
- Coordinate with project management, engineering, and other functional teams to align field activities with overall project objectives and timelines.
- Assist in managing construction-related issues on site, including troubleshooting problems, addressing field constraints, and supporting commissioning activities.
- Contribute to the successful execution of multiple concurrent projects, including substation, distribution, and transmission line work, as assigned.
Essential Skills
- Demonstrated experience in substation construction quality control, with a strong understanding of QA/QC processes and standards.
- Experience in electrical distribution construction and power delivery projects.
- Background in distribution construction management, overseeing subcontractor crews and field activities.
- Ability to read, interpret, and work from construction documents and drawings.
- Strong computer skills for documentation, reporting, and use of project-related software tools.
- Proven reporting skills, including the ability to produce clear, accurate, and timely construction and quality reports.
- Experience managing construction subcontractors to ensure compliance with safety, quality, and schedule requirements.
- Knowledge of safety practices and requirements in electrical construction environments, including substations and distribution systems.
- Experience with substation construction, including familiarity with field installation practices and commissioning support.
- Capability to work extended hours in a field environment, including 10-hour days and a base 50-hour work week.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working on projects for utilities such as Entergy, particularly in distribution and substation/t-line work.
- Construction management experience on large-scale utility or renewable energy projects.
- Project management experience in construction, including coordination of schedule, risk, and change management activities.
- Background in transmission construction or related electrical infrastructure projects.
- Familiarity with Meta Data Center or similar large client projects is beneficial.
- Strong communication skills for interacting with project teams, subcontractors, and stakeholders.
- Ability to lead construction meetings and contribute to standardized project reporting.
- Flexibility to support multiple projects over a multi-year period as part of a growing utility and renewable project portfolio.
Work Environment
This position is field-based on a large renewable substation project in the East Arkansas area, with work focused on pushing and coordinating subcontractor crews on site. The project is expected to run for multiple years, with initial assignments of at least one year and potential extensions due to a strong backlog of substation, distribution, and transmission projects. You will typically work 10-hour days for five days per week (5x10s), with a base work week of 50+ hours and the expectation that hours may increase as project demands grow. Standard per diem is provided, including seven days of per diem coverage for this role, and field expense/per diem guidelines are available. The work involves outdoor field conditions typical of utility and renewable construction sites, including exposure to weather, active construction equipment, and high-voltage environments. Holidays and paid time off are available, with time billed back to the project according to company guidelines. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $55.00 - $60.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
