Job Description

Mechanical & Hydraulic System Design

Our client is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to design, develop, and support complex mechanical and hydraulic systems used in advanced industrial equipment and engineered products. This role will contribute to the full product lifecycle, including concept development, detailed design, testing, commissioning, manufacturing support, and field implementation. The successful candidate will work closely with multidisciplinary teams across engineering, operations, project management, manufacturing, and commercial functions to deliver innovative and reliable solutions.

Responsibilities

- Design, develop, and support mechanical and hydraulic systems for complex equipment and machinery.
- Participate in the selection, evaluation, configuration, and integration of mechanical components, hydraulic systems, actuators, and associated equipment.
- Collaborate with electrical, software, controls, manufacturing, operations, and project teams throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Support assembly, testing, commissioning, installation, and ongoing product improvements.
- Investigate and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and system-level technical issues.
- Contribute to project planning activities, including work package development, scope definition, resource planning, and budget estimation.
- Support design reviews and ensure engineering solutions meet technical, operational, and commercial requirements.

Technical Documentation & Analysis

- Prepare engineering documentation in accordance with established company standards, including: Mechanical specifications
- Hydraulic schematics and diagrams
- Design and release packages
- Finite Element Analysis (FEA) reports
- Requirements documentation
- Interface and integration specifications
- Test procedures and validation reports

- Perform engineering calculations, analyses, and technical evaluations to support product development and customer requirements.
- Maintain engineering records and ensure documentation is accurate, complete, and traceable.
- Support verification, validation, and design review activities.

Technical Leadership

- Develop subject matter expertise in company products, systems, and technologies.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to technicians, designers, and junior engineers.
- Review engineering drawings, calculations, analyses, and technical documentation for quality and accuracy.
- Interface with suppliers, manufacturers, subcontractors, and customers on technical matters.
- Support engineering quality initiatives and ensure adherence to best practices and design standards.
- Participate in strategic technical discussions and contribute to product development roadmaps.

Continuous Improvement & Safety

- Follow company quality, safety, and environmental procedures.
- Participate in risk assessments, design reviews, and implementation of safe engineering practices.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on product performance, reliability, quality, and efficiency.
- Support compliance with applicable industry standards and internal management systems.
- Stay current with emerging engineering technologies, design methodologies, and industry best practices.

Preferred Qualifications

Must Have

- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Experience designing and developing mechanical and hydraulic systems.
- Strong understanding of engineering analysis, mechanical design principles, and equipment integration.
- Experience creating engineering documentation and supporting product development activities.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Experience troubleshooting complex technical systems and identifying practical solutions.

Nice to Have

- Experience with industrial equipment, heavy machinery, mobile equipment, automation systems, resource-sector equipment, energy systems, or other complex engineered products.
- Experience with hydraulic power units, actuators, fluid power systems, and motion-control applications.
- Familiarity with fabrication, assembly, commissioning, or field deployment of mechanical systems.
- Experience with DFMEA, PFMEA, reliability engineering, root cause analysis, or failure investigation methodologies.
- Experience leading projects, mentoring junior engineers, or providing technical leadership.
- Familiarity with ERP, PLM, or engineering change management systems.
- Experience working directly with suppliers, fabricators, manufacturers, customers, or certification agencies.
- Exposure to highly regulated, industrial, energy, transportation, mining, automation, robotics, or advanced manufacturing environments.

Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Vancouver, BC.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $55.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
Workplace Type
This is a fully onsite position in Vancouver,BC.
