Job Purpose:
The Janitor/Custodian is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards in the Cold Lake First Nations band buildings. This role ensures a safe and healthy environment for staff, employees, and community members.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain tidy and orderly entrances and waiting areas at all times.
- Disinfect all public area touchpoints daily.
- Clean and disinfect surfaces (e.g., tables, counters, sinks) daily.
- Sanitize and clean washrooms and fixtures daily, deep clean weekly.
- Sweep and mop floors, vacuum rugs and stairs as needed.
- Refill paper towel and napkin dispensers as required.
- Remove all debris, scraps, and refuse.
- Empty and dispose of trash and recycling daily in proper bins.
- Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies; submit orders every Monday.
- Keep janitor closets organized and ensure all bottles are properly labeled.
- Dust office, storage, and general areas weekly.
- Clean office spaces weekly or as requested.
- Perform seasonal deep cleans (e.g., wash walls, windows, move furniture/equipment).
- Report maintenance needs (e.g., HVAC, plumbing, electrical) to supervisor via maintenance request.
- Carry out other duties or training as requested by the supervisor (e.g., filling in for absent coworkers).
- Follow checklists and instructions provided by the supervisor.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Knowledge of basic cleaning techniques and products.
- Familiarity with workplace safety standards (WHMIS, MSDS, PPE).
- Strong interpersonal and time management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
- Knowledge of First Nations culture, governance, language, or community is an asset.
- Reliable transportation required.
Working Conditions and/or Physical Requirements:
- Physically demanding tasks include bending, lifting, stretching, and repetitive motions.
- Regular hours: Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week.
- Flexible scheduling to be discussed with the supervisor.
