The Department of Design is looking for

University Teacher or University Lecturer in Design and Manufacturing Technology

Who has rich practical experience of manufacturing designs in an industrial context and strong interest in educating future designers.

Your role and goals

In this position,   you   are   responsible for   educating students in turning design concepts into such prototypes that can be industrially manufactured with both mature and emerging technologies , including

- M anufacturing techniques relevant to product design ( such as   the design and mechanical engineering of an injection-moulded plastic product to be ready for production)

- CAD and CAM software in an industrial context

- Basics of prototyping including model making

In addition to teaching, duties   typically   include   participating   in the development of teaching,   design   activities   and research   at the Department of Design. You will   participate   in the guidance and assessment of student assignments and thes es   and   take part in   the   intake of new students   when needed.

- The Department of Design lecturers and professors

- Bachelor’s   Programme   in Design   and Fashion   students   majoring in design . Language of the   Programme   is Finnish and   Swedish   but teaching is possible   also   in English

- Bachelor’s Programme in Design and Media   students . Language of the Programme is English

- Master’s Programme in Design   students . Language of the Programme is English,   Finnish   and Swedish

- Workshop master s

- University administrative staff

Your experience and ambitions

T he ideal candidate for this position

- has rich experience   communicating with designers , understanding design intents , and see ing   them towards   realization.

- is interested in bridging   industrial practices with design education (e.g., bringing design projects and industrial partners into courses)

- c an teach   industrial manufacturing processes for scaled production as well as some one-off prototyping skills

- is able to   apply   digital fabrication knowledge   in collaboration with   digital modelling   teachers

- has experience on   curriculum design and development of   teaching

Require ments   for this position are

- M aster ’ s degree in design or relevant field

- Documented   track record   in design practice , in industry or manufacturing context s

- Strong interest in teaching design students   in practical skills as well as guiding thes e s

- Proficiency   in English

- Experience in University level teaching

- Proficiency   in Finnish and/or Swedish

- Research and other merits relevant to the field of the lectureship

- Documented p edagogic training
