As a Patient Transport ation Aide , you will   be responsible   for   the   timely ,   comfortable   and   accurate   transference of patients, medical   equipment ,   and other related items.   In this   position , you play a critical role in ensuring patients have access to the attention and treatment they need, offering a unique opportunity to make a difference in their lives every day.   You can also   ben efit   fr om the   num erous   pr ofessional and educational development resources   provided   by the Cleveland Clinic system.

A   PRN  caregiver in this position works  as   needed   days between 1 st  and 2 nd  shift.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

- Transport   patients and their   personal property   using wheelchairs,   carts   and beds through the admission,   discharge   and transfer procedures.

- Transport patients with / without IVs and oxygen to and from   P hysical   Th erapy,   O ccupational   T herapy,   R adiology,   R adiation   O ncology,   P hysiology   and other departments, including the   morgue   as necessary.

- Clean,   sanitize   and a ccount   for transportation equipment, wheelchairs   and   patient   carts   and s tore   in designated areas.

- Provide wheelchairs for ACC ,   other   areas   and visitors , r estock portable oxygen   tanks   and re spond to all transport requests with a sense of urgency.

- Activate and   complete   tasks at the start or end location via phone system.

- Notif y   nursing   caregivers , clinician s ,   technician s   or reception upon arrival   of the patient .

- Complete required logs and forms ,   including Critical Information.

- Verif y   correct patient identification through   appropriate means   ( i.e.   armband, chart, pager, DOB, etc.)   for proper   mode of transportation and standard precautions.

- Assist   nur sing caregivers   in   bedding   or moving   patient s   from bed into   wheelchair   or onto   stretcher .

- Consult with nursing   caregivers   before lifting and transferring   patients   and   obtain   assistance   when necessary.

- Complete transport s   quickly and   efficiently and   notif y   dispatcher s   when assignments are   initiate d ,   completed   or when delays/cancellations are   encountere d .

- Understand and appl y   knowledge of basic patient transport concepts, infection control   practices   and proper body mechanics for lifting and moving patients.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

- High   Sc hool   D iploma or GED

- Demonstrated interest   and   aptitude

- Express ed   genuine concern and care for patient welfare

Physical Requirements:

- Ability to lift and transfer patients requiring much assistance with minimal help.

Personal Protective Equipment:

- Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required
