About this role
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain our native Android application in Kotlin and Jetpack Compose, used by players and developers worldwide.
- Deliver high-quality features on time throughout the development lifecycle, from technical design through release and post-launch iteration.
- Own the full Android release process: signing, App Bundles, Play Console tracks, staged rollouts, pre-launch reports, and crash and ANR triage.
- Implement best practices for Android development, including code review, automated testing strategies, and CI/CD with Gradle, Fastlane, or equivalent.
- Integrate mini-apps, payments, and virtual currency systems into the Xsolla App ecosystem.
- Collaborate with product and design teams to turn business goals into experiences that feel genuinely native.
- Work with cross-functional teams, including backend developers, QA engineers, and project managers, and communicate effectively across distributed, multi-timezone teams.
- Participate in technical discussions to align development work with business objectives.
Architecture & Design
- Design and implement scalable application architecture for Android with a focus on maintainability, performance, and developer experience.
- Lead architectural decisions around modularization, dependency injection (Hilt/Dagger), navigation, and state management (MVVM, MVI, unidirectional data flow).
- Configure and optimize the Gradle build, convention plugins, version catalogs, build caching, and configuration cache, for fast, incremental builds.
- Build and maintain an internal Compose component library and design system implementation.
- Establish and enforce coding standards, design patterns, and best practices across the mobile development team.
- Create technical specifications and architecture documentation for complex features and systems.
- Partner with the iOS and React Native engineers to keep shared API contracts, design tokens, feature flags, and analytics schemas coherent across the app family, without flattening the platform into a lowest common denominator.
- Drive observability for mobile: structured logging, crash monitoring, performance tracing, and release health dashboards.
AI-First Engineering
- Use AI coding agents and assistants as a core part of your daily workflow, and raise the bar for how the team prompts, reviews, and verifies AI-generated code.
- Build and maintain the context that makes agents effective in our codebase: project rules, tool integrations, reproducible dev environments, and automated checks that catch what review misses.
- Design evaluation and guardrails for AI features, including prompt regression testing, fallback behavior, and handling of model failure modes in production.
- Share what works: mentor engineers on AI-assisted development and help set practical, quality-preserving standards for the organization.
Qualifications & Skills
- 5+ years of professional Android development experience, with deep, hands-on expertise in Kotlin.
- Proven track record of shipping commercial Android applications, with apps you built currently live on Google Play.
- Strong command of modern Android frameworks and idioms: Jetpack Compose, Coroutines and Flow, Lifecycle, Room, WorkManager, and Navigation.
- Strong understanding of Android architecture patterns (MVVM, MVI, Clean Architecture), dependency injection, and state management.
- Experience with automated testing on Android: JUnit, Compose UI tests, Espresso, Robolectric, and with CI/CD for Android release pipelines.
- Solid grasp of performance, memory, and battery profiling using Android Studio Profiler, Macrobenchmark, and Baseline Profiles.
- Experience building for a fragmented device and OS-version landscape, including large-screen and foldable form factors.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Proven, daily use of AI coding agents and AI-assisted development tools (e.g. Claude Code, Copilot, Cursor) to accelerate real production work - scoping tasks for agents, critically reviewing AI-generated code, and measurably increasing your own and your team’s velocity.
- Experience with third-party integrations, REST/GraphQL APIs, and mobile SDK consumption.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and a results-driven approach.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
Nice to Have
- Experience with app widgets, deep linking, push notifications (FCM), or background work at scale.
- Experience bridging Kotlin modules into React Native, or with Kotlin Multiplatform.
- Familiarity with Google Play Billing and alternative billing / external offer programs.
- Familiarity with gaming ecosystems, virtual currency platforms, in-app purchases, or alternative payment and digital commerce flows.
- Experience with mobile security practices: secure storage, certificate pinning, obfuscation, and fraud prevention.
- Contributions to open source, technical writing, or conference talks in the mobile or AI engineering space.
