About this role
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Knowledge of the overall operation of the institution, agency, and departmental organizational structure.
- Thorough knowledge of safe correctional operations and the ability to interpret and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Ability to communicate ideas and instructions clearly and concisely, use of computers and related equipment.
- Prepare and maintain accurate records, files, and reports.
- Effectively coordinate with other staff, departments, officials, agencies, organizations, and the public.
- Supervise and provide custody and security of inmates including observation of inmates/detainees during activities and assigned to work duty.
- Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed. Provide regular feedback to staff regarding social skills, procedures, and intervention techniques.
- Maintain accountability of staff, inmates/detainees, and property; adhere to safety practices.
- It is expected that the STG Officer shall also perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by the Jail Administrator or Warden.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Two years correctional custody or law enforcement experience.
- Successful completion of training courses and on-the-job training as required by facility training standards.
- Security Threat Group (STG) experience preferred, but not required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Lifting and/or moving requirement, minimum 50 pounds
- Prolonged periods of standing, sitting and/or walking.
- Capability to perform falling, bending and/or stooping.
- Occasional kneeling, crouching and/or crawling.
