About this role

Summary:

The SFJAZZ On-Call Artist Assistant provides crucial support to artists and crew during an SFJAZZ performance, both at the SFJAZZ Center and at various off-site Bay Area venues. The On-Call Artist Assistant acts as a liaison between the artists and Production/Stage Manager, Box Office and Front of House and is responsible for supporting on-site artist needs, backstage hospitality, guest lists and artist merchandise. It is essential that the Artist Assistant have excellent organizational, time management and interpersonal communication skills.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

- Serve as one of the primary representatives of SFJAZZ, fostering a professional and welcoming environment for artists and their crews.

- Set up dressing rooms, backstage areas and Greenroom per artist rider requirements

- Accompany artists to and from the stage or dressing rooms

- Assist with the coordination of backstage passes and guest lists, communicating with Artistic Department Box Office and FOH teams as appropriate

- Prepare and coordinate the transportation of backstage hospitality & catering for offsite venues

- Share post-show feedback with the Backstage Supervisor

- Escort artists to stage for performances and lobby for post-show signings, etc.

- Act as the liaison between the artists and drivers to assist with coordinating transportation pre- and post-show via text/phone

- Support the artists by running short errands in the neighborhood, as time permits.

Experience:

- One to two years of experience in the entertainment field working with high profile or high touch personalities or artists

- Experience in the catering or food service industry is preferred

Qualifications:

- Highly organized, independent and confident communicating with high profile individuals

- Exceptional verbal communication skills as well as strong interpersonal skills

- Ability to direct and manage several tasks of equal priority simultaneously

- Sustain productivity under pressure in order to retain strict timeline of the show schedule

- ServSafe certification required. Must certify within 30 days of hiring.

Working Conditions

This position is required to perform all work on-site. SFJAZZ produces events and performances all times of the day/week. Evenings/weekends will be required.
