About this role

Join our dynamic Osterley - based team and gain   practical   experience in the fast- moving   world of live news and sports news broadcasting. This entry-level role offers a structured training pathway, giving you   hands-on experience   operating , supporting , and   maintaining   broadcast equipment and streaming   technology   used to deliver live content   across   Sky platforms.

You   will   help support the daily   delivery of news and sports news coverage, special projects, and live events, working   both collaboratively   and independently.   The   role   is   designed to   support your   career development and progression.

This is not a content creation role . The   focus is on   the   technology, broadcast systems ,   and engineering that   support   media content delivery.   While   in-house   training is provided, a basic understanding of   broadcast   technical fundamentals   is expected   from day one.

What you   w ill   do:

- Become a member of the Sky News Operations Centre (NOC) team who play a pivotal role in the delivery of live and non-live content for Sky News and Sky Sports News. You will be working as part of a team and at times independently.

- You will follow in-house structured training, working alongside various Sky teams to deliver breaking news around the clock. Learning how to   operate , maintain and   modify   the latest innovative technology to deliver news content to our customers.

- Through your training you will have the opportunity to gain a good understanding of a variety of broadcasting and IT systems. Learning to deliver video and audio via a broad range of options including IP, 4G/5G cellular bonding devices, cloud,   satellite   and fibre options.

- Sky News   requires   cutting edge   thinking to ensure ever changing technology delivers the best customer experience possible. This will require working calmly and professionally in a diverse, fast paced, exciting environment often to tight deadlines.

- An ability or willingness to logically break down at times complex workflows, dive into error logs and system documentation to figure out   or   es cala te   a problem that you may not have seen before.

- This is   a   shift-based   role within a   24/7 operation ,   involving some night work.   You   will   need to be   comfortable with   the flexible and dynamic nature of a 24-hour news environment , including occasional opportunities to work off-site to support outside broadcasts.

What you   w ill   bring:

- Bring a proactive,   hands-on   approach to   configuring, supporting,   maintaining   and r outing   broadcast equipment and streaming devices ,   helping   ensure   daily news coverage, projects, and   special events   are delivered reliably. You   wil l   be able to   work   effectively   as part of a team   while also taking ownership of tasks   independently when needed.

- During training , you   wil l   provide technical support to news and sports news teams , including those   working in challenging   environments , using   clear   and   appropriate communication .

- Diagnose and resolve issues by working logically through problems,   identifying   root causes, and understanding why something has not worked as expected.

- A good level   of computer literacy (Microsoft, MacOS) and a basic understanding of networking and internet streaming protocols.

- Prior educational or work experience in broadcast technology, sound production environment or related industry would be   advantageous   but not a requirement.

- Although a technical role, a demonstrable interest in news and current affairs is expected.
