About the Role
Reporting to the Head of Life Chance Resourcing, within Resourcing, Selection and Onboarding (RSO), you will be working within an exciting and evolving area of work, supporting the employment of people who experience barriers in seeking employment and need a ‘Life Chance’. This currently includes prison leavers, military veterans and military spouses/civil partners. This work is a great opportunity to make a difference at the heart of government and contribute to a team which was awarded the Civil Service Commission’s Mark of Excellence award in 2024.
This work offers the opportunity to engage with colleagues from within the department and across government to ensure MoJ and HMPPS are following recruitment best practice and meeting our legal obligations.
This role requires someone who can engage with prospective and actual applicants, providing them with an excellent experience and level of service. Additionally, there is a need to engage with a variety of stakeholders from across government to achieve successful outcomes which align to key government commitments.
This is a national post. The job holder will be required to spend some time in 102 Petty France for monthly team meetings and to travel to locations across the country to support employment events (currently 15-20 per year). Overnight stays will be required to attend some events with early start times.
The key purpose of the role is to: • Be at the forefront of our Life Chance Strategy acting as a conduit between MoJ Resourcing and the HMPPS operational frontline. • Develop, implement and deliver recruitment strategies that support the recruitment of Life Chance groups. • Develop relationships with key stakeholders and with different staff support network groups working across the MoJ, both internal and external. • Maintain a strong overview of the activity within the Life Chance area and have a strong handle on work progressing across the team.
Key responsibilities:
• Support the Head of Life Chance Resourcing to deliver the strategy for MoJ to increase the life chance of new recruits, by supporting targeted recruitment campaigns with a focus on minority groups. • Case manage Advance into Justice candidates, providing support and guidance to applicants to give them the best experience and retain them within the process. • Draft all types of official correspondence relating to Life Chance Resourcing. • Manage team databases, providing progress reports to the Head of Life Chance Resourcing, delivering data and contextual insight. • Collate feedback through digital methods from candidates and vacancy managers on their experience of their recruitment journey and identify trends to improve the service provision. • Develop written and visual media including website copy to showcase the opportunities for prospective candidates and creating/amending guidance documents to inform service users in collaboration with communications colleagues. • Procure, organise and attend recruitment and resettlement events, engaging with attendees, acting as an advocate for MoJ and showcasing the opportunities that the department has to offer. Ensure events are appropriately staffed and provide on-site coordination and management of attending staff throughout each event. • Act as an ambassador for Life Chance Resourcing within RSO and across People and Capability, providing relevant communications via written and verbal channels.
The post holder is required to work in a flexible way and undertake any other duties reasonably requested by line management which are proportionate with the grade and level of responsibility of this post. Essential Criteria
• Excellent communication skills with people from all backgrounds • Highly motivated, problem solver with the ability and drive to overcome challenges independently or with support. • Good written communication and ability to draft official correspondence. • Must have a valid UK driving licence and be willing to drive and transport outreach materials to external events; hire car can be provided. • Experience in working in a fast-paced delivery environment. • Comfortable maintaining and working with databases. • Understanding of Microsoft products and a willingness to further develop skills to effectively deliver work.
Desirable Criteria
• Experience of delivering targeted, volume or project recruitment. • Recent HMPPS frontline operational experience.

Working Arrangements & Further Information
The MoJ offers Hybrid Working arrangements where business need allows. This is an informal, non-contractual form of flexible working that blends working from your base location, different MoJ sites and / or from home (please be aware that this role can only be worked in the UK and not overseas). All employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in an office, subject to local estate capacity.
Some roles will not be suitable for Hybrid Working. Similarly, Hybrid Working will not suit everyone’s circumstances. Arrangements will be discussed and agreed with the successful candidate(s) and subject to regular review.
For nationally advertised roles: All successful candidates will be appointed to the nearest viable office nearest to their home postcode and on its respective pay scale. This will be at either a HQ building (subject to desk allocation, a Justice Collaboration Centre (JCC) or a Justice Satellite Office (JSO) – See Map . All employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in an office, subject to local estate capacity).
For current MoJ employees, your base location will need to be changed to the nearest viable office (to your home postcode), either at a HQ building, JCC or JSO within the National Office Network and moved its location’s respective pay scale (any legacy arrangements/locations will need to be amended).
Some of MoJ’s terms and conditions of service are changing as part of Civil Service reform. The changes will apply to staff joining MoJ who are new to the Civil Service. Staff joining MoJ from other civil service employers will transfer onto the new MoJ terms if they are already on 'modernised' terms in their current post or onto 'unmodernised' MoJ terms if they are on 'unmodernised' terms at their current post. Details will be available if an offer is made.
MoJ candidates who are on a specialist grade, will be able to retain their grade on lateral transfer.

Flexible working hours
The Ministry of Justice offers a flexible working system in many offices. Standard full time working hours are 37 hours per week. Annual leave is 25 days on appointment and will increase to 30 days after five years’ service.
