Job Title: IRB Specialist II Job Description
The IRB Specialist II is well-versed in state and federal laws, ethical issues, institutional policies, and agency requirements that govern the protection of human subjects in research. This role includes conducting quality control functions for the IRB office, encompassing the review of files and meeting minutes for accuracy and consistency. The IRB Specialist II also provides training for IRB Office Coordinators and oversees external IRB review processes and the electronic submission process. This position requires a commitment to outstanding customer service and the maintenance of respectful relationships with all stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Read and interpret current regulations, guidelines, and trends influencing human subject research.
- Interact with management and staff to provide information, guidance, and ensure integrity in research activities.
- Assist in the development, updating, and communication of policies and procedures in research administration.
- Monitor, review, and report on performance measures, and audit and monitor studies and consent processes.
- Conduct educational classes specific to human subject research for researchers and IRB members.
- Counsel investigators and support staff in resolving IRB committee issues.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in legal studies, business administration, finance, accounting, or a research-related field, with three years of IRB or research-related experience in an academic or medical setting.
- OR an Associate's degree in the same fields with five years of IRB or research-related experience in an academic or medical setting.
- Certified Institutional Review Board Professional certification.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in regulatory compliance, handling regulatory documents, and regulatory submissions.
- Ability to monitor, review, and report on performance measures.
- Proficiency in quality processes.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $52000.00 - $79289.60/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
