Attendant Playroom

Schedule: Primarily morning shifts; dependable morning availability is strongly preferred.

Help create a bright, welcoming start to the day for children and families at the South Shore YMCA!

The Playroom Attendant provides a safe, engaging, and nurturing environment where children can play, explore, and have fun while their parents and caregivers enjoy the Y. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with children, brings positive energy to their mornings, and takes pride in creating a clean and inviting space.

The Playroom Attendant carefully supervises children, leads age-appropriate play and activities, maintains the cleanliness of toys and equipment, and consistently follows all YMCA safety and check-in procedures.

CORE EXPECTATIONS

PROGRAM MANAGEMENT

Provides attentive and responsible supervision of children in the Playroom.

Engages children in age-appropriate games, activities, and creative play.

Helps each child feel safe, included, and comfortable while in the Playroom.

Follows all established check-in, check-out, safety, and emergency procedures.

Communicates professionally with parents and caregivers regarding their childs experience.

MEMBERSHIP ENGAGEMENT AND DEVELOPMENT

Greets children, parents, caregivers, and members with warmth and enthusiasm.

Builds positive relationships with families and helps create a welcoming sense of community.

Delivers a high-quality experience that encourages families to stay connected to the YMCA.

Assists new members by answering questions and connecting them with appropriate YMCA programs and resources.

FACILITY MANAGEMENT

Maintains a clean, safe, organized, and inviting Playroom environment.

Cleans and sanitizes toys, equipment, and frequently used surfaces according to established procedures.

Completes routine safety checks and promptly reports damaged equipment, hazards, or supply needs.

Ensures the Playroom remains adequately stocked and prepared for each shift.

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT AND SUPPORT

Supports YMCA fundraising initiatives, special events, and community-building activities as needed.

Promotes the YMCAs mission and strengthens relationships among members, families, volunteers, and the surrounding community.

Qualifications

One to three years of related experience preferred.

Previous experience working with children is preferred but not required.

Reliable availability for morning shifts.

Motivated, upbeat, and committed to creating a safe, engaging, and fun environment for the children and families we serve.

Ability to communicate positively and professionally with children, families, members, and coworkers.

Ability to remain attentive, patient, and calm while supervising children in an active play environment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Ability to remain on your feet for extended periods.

Ability to frequently bend, stoop, kneel, and sit on the floor while interacting with children.

Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

Ability to actively participate in play and respond promptly to the needs of children throughout the shift.
