Quality Control Technician – Baltimore
Position Overview
Are you detail-oriented, dependable, and interested in learning more about coatings technology and quality control? Tnemec Company, Inc. is seeking a Quality Control Technician to join our Baltimore team.
In this role, you will perform quality control testing on raw materials and production batches while developing your technical knowledge and experience within the coatings industry. You will play an important role in ensuring materials and finished products meet established quality standards.
Your Day-to-Day: What Youll Be Doing
- Perform routine quantitative and qualitative tests to evaluate the chemical and physical properties of coatings and raw materials.
- Conduct standardized laboratory tests and procedures according to established instructions and specifications.
- Prepare drawdowns and perform routine testing of coating properties and performance.
- Obtain materials needed for laboratory testing and daily operations.
- Operate, utilize, and calibrate laboratory equipment and testing apparatus.
- Use Oracle software to review, adjust, and document production batch adjustments.
- Recommend corrective actions for off-standard materials within established guidelines.
- Maintain accurate testing, adjustment, and quality-control records.
- Develop working knowledge of Tnemec products, product codes, test methods, and laboratory equipment.
- Maintain laboratory equipment and work areas in a clean and orderly condition.
- Work closely with Production and other technical teams to support product quality and operational needs.
- Perform additional testing and quality-control duties as assigned by the Manager or Group Lead of Quality Control.
What the Job Requires
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous Quality Control experience preferred.
- Basic knowledge of workplace safety and regulatory requirements.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team with a high degree of accuracy and integrity.
- Ability to successfully complete a basic color-recognition test with a score of 50 or higher .
- Ability to successfully complete a math assessment with a score of 75% or greater .
- Basic computer and keyboarding skills.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office applications strongly preferred.
- Ability and willingness to learn laboratory testing procedures, equipment, coatings technology, and Tnemec products.
Essential Job Functions
- Ability to stand for prolonged periods.
- Ability to lift and move materials weighing up to 60 pounds .
- Ability to perform computer and keyboard-related tasks.
- Ability to answer incoming telephone calls, including the night line as required.
