Service Porter

Position Summary

The Service Porter is responsible for assisting the Service Department with the movement, organization, cleanliness, and delivery of customer vehicles. This position helps maintain an efficient service operation while providing excellent customer service and protecting customer vehicles and property.

The Service Porter works closely with Service Advisors, Technicians, Service Managers, and other dealership personnel to ensure vehicles are moved and prepared in a timely and professional manner.

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities

- Move and park customer vehicles safely throughout the dealership property.

- Retrieve customer vehicles when requested by Service Advisors.

- Deliver completed vehicles to customers in a timely manner.

- Assist customers with vehicle drop-off and pick-up when needed.

- Perform vehicle walk-arounds and report any noticeable damage or concerns to the appropriate dealership employee.

- Keep customer vehicles clean and organized while they are in the Service Department.

- Check vehicles for personal belongings before moving or delivering them.

- Assist with washing, vacuuming, fueling, and general preparation of customer vehicles as directed.

- Maintain clean and organized service drive, parking areas, and vehicle staging areas.

- Assist Service Advisors and Technicians with moving vehicles to appropriate locations.

- Follow all dealership procedures regarding customer vehicles, keys, vehicle security, and parking.

- Maintain proper control and organization of vehicle keys.

- Follow all safety procedures while operating dealership vehicles and equipment.

- Report vehicle damage, mechanical concerns, accidents, or other problems immediately to management.

- Assist with maintaining an orderly and professional appearance of the Service Department.

- Perform other duties assigned by the Service Manager or dealership management.

- Age requirement 21+

- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

- Ability to safely operate both automatic and manual-transmission vehicles, if required by the dealership.

- Ability to drive and park vehicles safely in confined areas.

- Ability to work in a fast-paced dealership environment.

- Reliable attendance and punctuality.

- Ability to communicate professionally with customers and dealership employees.

- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

- Ability to maintain a professional appearance and attitude.

- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

- Previous dealership, automotive, service department, valet, or customer-service experience.

- Basic knowledge of automobiles and vehicle operations.

- Experience operating a variety of passenger vehicles, trucks, and SUVs.

- Previous experience working around automotive service equipment.

- Bilingual communication skills may be beneficial depending on dealership customer needs.

Physical Requirements

- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.

- Ability to frequently enter and exit vehicles.

- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

- Ability to lift and carry items as required by the position.

- Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and perform other physical activities associated with moving and servicing vehicles.

- Ability to safely work around moving vehicles and automotive service areas.

Customer Service Expectations

The Service Porter represents the dealership whenever interacting with customers. Employees are expected to:

- Greet customers in a friendly and professional manner.

- Treat every customer's vehicle with care and respect.

- Protect customer property and personal belongings.

- Maintain a clean and professional appearance.

- Communicate concerns promptly to the Service Advisor or management.

- Provide courteous assistance without making promises regarding repairs, pricing, or completion times unless authorized.
