Job Summary

The CNC Supervisor will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machining department within our manufacturing facility. This role involves leading a team of CNC operators and programmers, ensuring production schedules are met with high quality and efficiency, maintaining equipment, and upholding safety standards. The ideal candidate will have strong technical knowledge of CNC machinery and tooling, proven leadership skills, and a commitment to continuous improvement.

Duties and Responsibilities

Team Leadership and Management:

- Supervise, train, mentor, and evaluate the performance of CNC operators and entry-level programmers.

- Delegate tasks and assign work orders to team members based on production schedules and employee skill sets.

- Foster a positive team environment that emphasizes safety, quality, and productivity.

- Conduct regular team meetings to communicate goals, discuss production issues, and implement new procedures.

- Manage employee scheduling, time-off requests, and coverage to ensure continuous operation.

Production and Quality Assurance:

- Oversee the setup, operation, and troubleshooting of various CNC and non-CNC machines to produce precision parts.

- Monitor production output and metrics to ensure adherence to production goals and specifications.

- Review and approve CNC programs and setups, verifying that they meet engineering specifications and optimize efficiency.

- Conduct regular in-process quality checks and final inspections using precision measuring instruments.

- Implement and enforce company quality control procedures and standards.

Equipment Maintenance and Operations:

- Coordinate and perform routine preventive maintenance (PM) on all CNC machinery and related equipment.

- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and programming issues with machines to minimize downtime.

- Manage inventory of tooling, cutting fluids, and machine consumables, ensuring adequate stock is available.

- Recommend and justify upgrades or replacement of old equipment to enhance capabilities and efficiency.

Safety and Compliance:

- Ensure all departmental operations strictly comply with company safety policies and OSHA regulations.

- Conduct regular safety audits and enforce the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

- Investigate and report all workplace accidents, near misses, and equipment failures, implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

- Ensure the work area is kept clean, organized, and free of hazards (5S methodology).

Process Improvement and Communication:

- Collaborate with Engineering, Planning, and Quality departments to optimize production processes and resolve technical issues.

- Identify opportunities for process improvements, cycle time reduction, and cost savings.

- Maintain accurate production logs, maintenance records, and performance reports.

- Provide regular updates to the Production Manager on department performance, challenges, and proposed solutions.

Qualifications

- High School Diploma or GED; Associate's degree or technical certification in Machining, Manufacturing Technology, or a related field is preferred.

- 3 years of experience operating and programming laser cutting machine and press brake machine.

- 1 years of experience in a supervisory or lead role within a manufacturing or machine shop environment.

- Strong knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).

- Expertise in reading and interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, and engineering specifications.

- Proficiency with various metrology equipment.

- Familiarity with common CNC controllers.
