About this role

The Service Technician- Class C is responsible for performing basic maintenance, inspections, and entry-level repairs on medium-duty through Class 7 and 8 heavy-duty trucks in a timely and efficient manner. This position operates under close to moderate supervision and is considered an entry-level technician role. The Service Technician- Class C is expected to develop foundational mechanical and diagnostic skills while supporting shop productivity, quality workmanship, and customer uptime.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

- Maintenance and Basic Repairs

Perform routine maintenance and basic mechanical repairs on medium-duty and heavy-duty trucks

- Assist in inspections and preventative maintenance services

- Replace basic components such as filters, belts, and other wear items

- Assist senior technicians with complex repairs

- Diagnostics Support

Assist in diagnosing basic mechanical and electrical issues

- Use diagnostic tools and software under supervision

- Learn to identify potential issues and communicate findings

- Work Execution and Quality

Complete assigned tasks accurately and efficiently

- Read and understand repair orders and follow instructions

- Maintain productivity standards appropriate for experience level

- Communicate repair status and additional needs to service advisors or management

- Safety and Compliance

Follow all safety policies, procedures, and OSHA requirements

- Keep work area clean, organized, and properly maintained

- Properly use and maintain tools, equipment, and personal protective equipment

- Maintain awareness of environmental and safety hazards in the shop

- Participate in required training and certification programs

- Ensure all work is performed in compliance with Company and regulatory standards

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below are representative of those required. This position involves hands-on work in a shop environment, including frequent use of tools, equipment, and machinery. Employees are required to stand, walk, bend, lift, and work in various conditions, including exposure to noise, fumes, and moving mechanical parts. Lifting up to 50-100 pounds may be required. Education

- High school diploma or GED required

- Technical school or diesel technology training preferred

- Basic to intermediate computer skills required, including the ability to learn diagnostic software and service systems

Skills Required

- Basic mechanical aptitude with a strong willingness to learn and develop technical skills

- Ability to read and interpret repair orders and follow instructions

- Effective written and verbal communication skills

- Basic mathematical skills for measurements and calculations

- Problem-solving skills with the ability to recognize when to seek assistance

- Ability to use basic shop tools, equipment, and diagnostic systems with guidance

- Ability to manage time and complete assigned tasks efficiently

- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality work

- Ability to work collaboratively with other technicians and supervisors

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations

- CDL preferred but not required. With a valid CDL, must be able to meet Company insurability requirements

- Occasional travel to other Company locations or trainings may be required
