About this role

Accountabilities:

- Design, test, and refine AI chat scenarios involving mental health and psychological distress.

- Roleplay Brazilian users in English-based conversations, accurately reflecting relevant cultural contexts, communication patterns, and help-seeking behaviors without relying on stereotypes.

- Analyze conversations qualitatively and identify behavioral edge cases, safety concerns, and model failures.

- Develop personas, behavioral taxonomies, psychometric frameworks, evaluation rubrics, and structured testing scenarios.

- Provide expert feedback on mental health policies and approaches used in AI systems.

- Collaborate with researchers and engineers to support safety metrics, model testing, and fine-tuning.

- Document edge cases and contribute to interdisciplinary review sessions.

- Maintain strict confidentiality, ethical standards, quality assurance, and responsible handling of sensitive content.

Requirements:

- Licensed, registered, certified, or otherwise professionally qualified mental health clinician in Brazil or the relevant jurisdiction, including psychology, counseling, social work, psychiatry, or a related field. Equivalent professional education and training may be considered where formal licensure is not required.

- Experience working directly with clients or patients experiencing suicidal ideation, non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI), crisis situations, severe psychopathology, and risk assessment.

- Strong cultural familiarity with Brazil, gained through lived experience, residence, meaningful cultural ties, clinical experience with Brazilian populations, or comparable professional or personal experience.

- Ability to authentically represent culturally relevant communication styles and mental health experiences in English-based conversations while avoiding broad cultural generalizations or stereotypes.

- Familiarity with AI tools, large language models (LLMs), and an interest in their application to mental health and safety.

- Strong understanding of clinical ethics, confidentiality, and responsible handling of sensitive information.

- Ability to work remotely and comfortably use tools such as Slack, LLM platforms, and Microsoft Office.

- Proactive, reliable, communicative, adaptable, and comfortable working independently in ambiguous, feedback-driven environments.

- Willingness to sign NDAs and work with confidential or sensitive material.

- Availability of approximately 5–10 hours per week when actively assigned to a project.

- Additional relevant experience may include 5+ years of clinical crisis work, experience with conditions such as PTSD, BPD, bipolar disorder, or schizophrenia, youth and young adult clinical experience, roleplay or theatre, conversational design, trust and safety, content moderation, behavioral data labeling, NLP/ML, or participation in relevant online communities.
