About Us

Hyatt Place Mount Pleasant Towne Centre is a 92-room hotel located in the heart of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, just minutes from historic Charleston, area beaches, and some of the regions top shopping, dining, and entertainment destinations.

We are seeking an energetic, dependable, and service-oriented Cook / Host to join The Placery, our evening Food & Beverage operation. This position combines food preparation, kitchen operations, order service, and guest interaction to create a welcoming and enjoyable dining experience. This position would be Tuesday - Saturday from 4:45pm to 10:15pm.

Whether preparing a freshly made meal, helping a guest choose from the menu, or maintaining a clean and organized kitchen, our Cook / Hosts help guests relax and recharge after a busy day.

Position Summary

The Placery Cook / Host is responsible for setting up and stocking the workstation, preparing and plating menu items, serving guests, maintaining quality control, completing cleaning responsibilities, and ensuring compliance with food-safety and health department requirements.

The ideal candidate is friendly, dependable, organized, and able to maintain composure while working efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

Essential Functions

Guest Services

- Welcome guests with a warm, friendly, and professional attitude.

- Take food and beverage orders accurately and answer questions about menu offerings.

- Provide recommendations based on guest preferences.

- Serve prepared food and beverages promptly and professionally.

- Anticipate guest needs and respond promptly to requests.

- Accurately process guest orders, payments, and room charges.

- Address guest concerns professionally and involve Management when appropriate.

- Create a comfortable and inviting atmosphere within The Placery.

Food Preparation & Cooking

- Prepare food according to established recipes, portions, and presentation standards.

- Thaw, cut, portion, mix, and prepare ingredients for service.

- Prepare broiled, baked, grilled, steamed, sauted, blended, and fried menu items.

- Follow established cooking times and temperatures to ensure food is prepared safely and consistently.

- Plate menu items according to established standards, including proper portions and garnishes.

- Maintain food quality, freshness, appearance, and consistency throughout service.

- Properly label, date, store, rotate, and dispose of food products.

- Follow the first-in, first-out—or FIFO—method when rotating inventory.

Kitchen Operations

- Set up, stock, and organize the workstation before service.

- Check coolers, freezers, and storage areas to ensure adequate stock levels.

- Communicate product shortages and replenishment needs to Management.

- Safely operate kitchen tools and equipment, including knives, measuring utensils, scales, kitchen shears, slicers, mixers, steamers, grills, fryers, and ovens.

- Monitor food temperatures and complete required temperature logs.

- Follow recipes and production standards to control food quality, portions, and costs.

- Complete opening, closing, and assigned side-work responsibilities.

Cleaning & Sanitation

- Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary workstation throughout the shift.

- Clean kitchen equipment, preparation surfaces, service areas, and storage spaces.

- Wash dishes, utensils, cookware, and service equipment as needed.

- Empty trash and properly dispose of food waste.

- Follow all health department, food-safety, sanitation, and chemical-handling requirements.

- Report equipment problems, maintenance concerns, and safety hazards promptly.

- Ensure all food and equipment are properly secured at the end of the shift.

Inventory & Organization

- Monitor food, beverage, and supply levels throughout the shift.

- Assist with inventory counts and product organization.

- Restock ingredients, service items, and supplies as needed.

- Help minimize food waste through proper preparation, portioning, storage, and rotation.

- Communicate ordering and replenishment needs to Management.

Teamwork & Operations

- Work closely with Guest Services, Breakfast, Housekeeping, and Management to provide a seamless guest experience.

- Communicate professionally with teammates regarding orders, guest requests, and operational needs.

- Support other Food & Beverage functions and hotel events when needed.

- Remain composed and professional during busy or high-pressure situations.

- Attend required meetings and training sessions.

- Follow Hyatt brand standards and company policies.

- Complete additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

- Previous customer service experience.

- Basic food preparation and cooking knowledge.

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

- Ability to follow recipes, portions, and food-safety procedures.

- Ability to multitask and remain organized in a fast-paced environment.

- Ability to work independently with limited supervision.

- Ability to maintain composure and professionalism under pressure.

- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.

- Food Handler certification or willingness to obtain it.

- Alcohol Awareness certification or willingness to obtain it.

- Ability to obtain any additional certifications required for the position, which may include ServSafe, CPR, or First Aid.

Preferred Qualifications

- Previous restaurant, hotel, catering, or kitchen experience.

- Previous cooking and guest-service experience.

- Experience operating commercial kitchen equipment.

- Experience with point-of-sale systems.

- Current Food Handler, ServSafe, or Alcohol Awareness certification.

- Hyatt or hotel Food & Beverage experience preferred.

Physical Requirements

- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.

- Ability to work safely around heat, steam, sharp tools, and commercial kitchen equipment.

- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally.

- Ability to bend, reach, push, pull, and carry food products and supplies.

- Ability to perform repetitive food-preparation and cleaning tasks.

- Ability to work in hot, cold, and fast-paced kitchen environments.

Schedule Expectations

- Evening availability is required.

- Weekend and holiday availability is required based on business needs.

- Shifts include setup before service and cleaning and closing responsibilities afterward.

- Schedule may vary based on hotel occupancy, events, and operational needs.
