Pharmacy Technician

Job Title: Pharmacy Technician Job Description This role supports a highly automated central fill pharmacy that packages and distributes medications to retail pharmacies across multiple states. As a Pharmacy Technician, you will manually fill prescriptions, replenish medications for automated dispensing stations, package medications, stock completed packages, and perform related tasks to ensure accurate, safe, and timely prescription fulfillment in a fast-paced production environment. Responsibilities

- Maintain pharmacy systems and technology, including inventory systems and automated medication counting machines, by preparing accurate records and reports to ensure compliance with policies and regulations.
- Monitor inventory levels and expiration dates for pharmaceuticals, calibrate machines, and apply correct settings to pill and capsule specifications to minimize breakage.
- Ensure medications are continuously replenished by using computers and scanners, and troubleshoot pill cell issues such as jamming throughout production.
- Maintain and track medication inventory by sorting, placing, and storing freight in appropriate locations, restocking and replenishing medications, and reporting low stock levels.
- Rotate stock on a first-in, first-out basis to support shrinkage control, perform inventory cycle counts, assist with physical inventory counts, and create reports using inventory information systems.
- Monitor prescription inventory for expired pharmaceuticals and take appropriate action to remove or process them according to procedures.
- Support the facility with reporting and paperwork by entering and modifying pharmaceutical data in systems and on forms, processing and submitting paperwork, and creating and maintaining documentation such as files, manuals, forms, records, and supplies.
- Prepare reports of pharmacy activities and inventory, including state board mandated testing of counting devices, and identify and resolve discrepancies in records or files.
- Inform leadership about incorrect or inefficient processes and improper service procedures, and help implement improvements to maintain productivity and pharmaceutical integrity.
- Ensure accurate fulfillment of pharmacy prescriptions in an automated central fill environment to maintain continuous workflow and meet daily production and quality goals.
- Use scanners to identify and select the correct pharmaceutical product and quantity for prescription orders, verifying product size, strength, and display for pack and quantity before processing.
- Enter expiration dates and lot numbers, label prescriptions, weigh medications to confirm accurate quantities, and count or pour medications for prescription orders.
- Prepare packages and distribute medications in a fast-paced production environment, while replenishing automated counting machines to sustain workflow.
- Maintain the quality, accuracy, and integrity of pharmaceutical and supply inventory by using automated inventory control scanners and systems to track delivery and stocking activities.
- Ensure adherence to documented inventory control procedures, including product strategies and product description discrepancy resolution.
- Audit and test pill cell performance according to prescribed schedules and procedures, manage pill cell information databases, and troubleshoot pill cell performance issues.
- Identify and properly discard hazardous waste, process recalled and expired pharmaceuticals, and dispose of or arrange return of outdated stock for credit.
- Collaborate effectively with pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, shipping and receiving coordinators, and other team members to support overall production and operational goals.

Essential Skills

- Meets state requirements to work as a Pharmacy Technician, including qualification, registration, certification, and/or licensure as required by the State Board of Pharmacy. Active registration as a Pharmacy Technician in Indiana or Minnesota

- Experience working as a pharmacy technician in a pharmacy or fulfillment environment.
- Ability to use and maintain pharmacy inventory systems and automated medication counting machines.
- Proficiency with computers and scanners for inventory management, prescription processing, and data entry.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy when counting, pouring, weighing, labeling, and packaging medications.
- Ability to follow detailed procedures, regulatory requirements, and standard operating protocols in a pharmacy setting.
- Capability to stand for extended periods, including standing in one spot throughout the shift, in a fast-paced production environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

- Retail pharmacy experience is preferred.
- Warehouse or distribution experience is preferred.
- Prior experience in a central fill pharmacy environment is highly desirable.
- Experience in a pill-pack, specialty, or mail order production pharmacy or shipping department is preferred.
- Customer service experience in a pharmacy or retail setting is beneficial.
- Experience with fulfillment operations, including packaging and shipping processes, is an advantage.
- Familiarity with compounding or handling multiple dosage forms is helpful.
- Strong organizational and documentation skills for maintaining records, reports, and inventory documentation.
- Ability to troubleshoot mechanical issues with automated counting machines and pill cells.
- Comfort working with automated systems, scanners, and technology in a highly automated facility.

Work Environment This role is based in a newer, highly automated central fill pharmacy that prepares and packages prescriptions for retail pharmacies rather than dispensing directly to patients. The facility operates as a closed-door pharmacy, with no direct customer service or vaccine administration and no point-of-care testing. The team includes pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and shipping and receiving coordinators, with approximately 200 people working onsite. The environment is fast paced and production oriented, requiring a high level of attention to detail and consistent adherence to procedures. Pharmacy technicians must be able to stand for the majority of their shift, often in one spot, while performing repetitive tasks with precision. The position is scheduled on second shift, typically from 4:00 p.m. to 2:30 a.m., with schedules that may include Sunday through Wednesday, Sunday, Monday, Thursday, and Friday, or Tuesday through Friday. The facility is closed on Thanksgiving. The dress code aligns with a professional pharmacy and production setting, emphasizing safety, cleanliness, and appropriate attire for working around automated equipment and pharmaceuticals.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Plainfield, IN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $21.50/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
