About this role

Job Title: Cloud Test Automation Engineer (Software Test Engineer) Job Description This role focuses on owning and advancing automated validation for cloud-to-device deployment workflows in an AWS environment. You will design, build, and operate test automation using AWS CDK (TypeScript) and CI/CD-driven provisioning to deploy AWS IoT Greengrass components to device fleets and validate releases through reliable, repeatable automation. The position emphasizes infrastructure and test automation, high-signal validation, and operational rigor rather than developing Greengrass components or device drivers. You will thrive in this role if you enjoy a fast-paced environment, take strong ownership, and consistently deliver production-ready quality. Responsibilities

- Own cloud test automation end-to-end, including design, implementation, testing, integration into CI/CD pipelines, release readiness, and ongoing operations.
- Develop and maintain AWS CDK (TypeScript) stacks that provision cloud environments, configure device fleets, and deploy AWS IoT Greengrass components.
- Design, implement, and evolve automated test suites, including integration, end-to-end, and regression tests, and integrate quality gates into CI/CD pipelines.
- Improve test signal and reliability by reducing test flakiness, increasing determinism where possible, and adding diagnostics and observability to test infrastructure.
- Drive defect rigor by writing clear, actionable bug reports with detailed reproduction steps, impact assessment, and root-cause analysis, and follow issues through to resolution.
- Establish and maintain mechanisms for release readiness, such as test dashboards, coverage signals, checklists, runbooks, and automated alerts.
- Partner closely with development teams to improve system testability, clarify acceptance criteria, and prevent regressions before launch.
- Support hands-on validation workflows as needed to verify real-world deployment scenarios using physical devices.
- Participate in operational support activities and on-call rotation as required to ensure reliable operation of test and deployment workflows.

Essential Skills

- At least 2 years of hands-on AWS experience in automation, deployment workflows, or infrastructure engineering (1–2 years may be considered for exceptional candidates).
- Strong, practical experience with AWS CDK using TypeScript.
- Proficiency in TypeScript for infrastructure and automation development.
- Proficiency in Python for scripting, tooling, or test automation.
- Experience building automated tests and integrating them into CI pipelines, including understanding of unit, integration, and end-to-end testing concepts.
- Strong debugging and root-cause analysis skills, with the ability to operate effectively in ambiguous situations and drive issues to closure.
- Solid understanding and application of software development lifecycle (SDLC) practices, including use of Git for version control, participation in code reviews, and adherence to secure coding fundamentals such as least privilege, secure secrets handling, and dependency hygiene.
- Experience with software testing in cloud-based environments.
- Hands-on experience with AWS services in support of cloud automation and deployment workflows.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

- Experience with Hydra (AWS testing framework) or comparable cloud test automation frameworks.
- Experience validating AWS IoT and/or AWS IoT Greengrass deployments, with preference for AWS IoT Greengrass v2.
- Experience using AWS Lambda and AWS Step Functions for orchestration or test harness automation.
- Experience working with Amazon CloudWatch logs and metrics, including setting up alerting and contributing to operational excellence practices.
- Familiarity with CI/CD tools and practices for automating deployment and testing pipelines.
- Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional development and operations teams.
- A proactive, ownership-driven mindset and comfort working in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

Work Environment The role centers on a modern cloud-native environment built on AWS, with extensive use of AWS CDK (TypeScript) for infrastructure as code, and CI/CD pipelines for automated provisioning, deployment, and testing. You will work closely with development and operations teams to support AWS IoT and AWS IoT Greengrass deployments, leveraging services such as AWS Lambda, Step Functions, and CloudWatch for orchestration, monitoring, and observability. The position involves both automated and occasional hands-on validation with physical devices to mirror real-world deployment scenarios. The work emphasizes operational rigor, test reliability, and continuous improvement of automation and quality signals in a collaborative, fast-paced setting.
