About this role

The Junior Welder is an entry-level welding position responsible for performing basic welding and fabrication work in a shop environment. This position assists with fitting, welding, grinding, cutting, and preparing materials according to work orders, drawings, and instructions from supervisors or experienced welders.

The Junior Welder is expected to follow all safety and quality procedures, maintain a clean work area, and develop their welding skills through hands-on training and experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Perform basic welding using appropriate welding processes and equipment.

- Weld and join metal components according to instructions, drawings, or work orders.

- Assist with fitting and positioning materials prior to welding.

- Use grinders, cutting tools, measuring devices, and other basic fabrication equipment.

- Inspect completed welds for basic quality and workmanship.

- Follow established welding procedures and quality standards.

- Maintain welding equipment and report damaged or malfunctioning equipment.

- Keep the work area clean and organized.

- Follow all company safety policies and wear required PPE.

- Assist experienced welders and other shop employees as needed.

- Complete assigned work accurately and within expected production timelines.

- Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

- Basic welding knowledge or experience preferred.

- Welding school, vocational training, or previous shop experience is a plus but not required.

- Ability to use basic hand and power tools.

- Ability to read a tape measure and take basic measurements.

- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.

- Willingness to learn welding and fabrication processes.

- Dependable attendance and ability to work effectively as part of a team.

- Ability to work safely in an industrial/shop environment.

Physical Requirements

- Ability to stand for extended periods.

- Ability to bend, kneel, reach, push, and pull as required.

- Ability to lift and move materials associated with the position.

- Ability to work in a fabrication environment that may include heat, noise, dust, sparks, and fumes.

- Must be able to wear required PPE.

- Ability to lift up to 50lbs at times.

Experience

Entry Level – 0–1 year of welding or fabrication experience preferred.
