Position overview
The IT Director is responsible for the strategic leadership, operational management, and continuous improvement of Range USA's information technology function. This role oversees all aspects of IT — including infrastructure, web development, data solutions, project management, and cybersecurity — and serves as the primary technology advisor to Range USA Leadership. The IT Director ensures that systems, platforms, and processes are aligned with business objectives, that the IT team is well-led and high-performing, and that the organization's technology posture remains secure, scalable, and forward-looking.

Key responsibilities
- Serve as the primary technology advisor to executive leadership, defining and executing a multi-year IT roadmap aligned with Range USA's growth strategy; lead IT planning, budgeting, capital expenditure forecasting, and vendor and partner contract management.
- Directly manage a team of IT managers and senior individual contributors across Infrastructure, Web Development, Data Solutions, and Project Management; model a genuine leadership mindset — owning outcomes good and bad, making decisions with confidence, and holding the team to the same standard; foster a culture of curiosity, passion, accountability, and world-class customer service that mirrors Range USA's core values.
- Recruit, develop, and retain high-performing IT professionals; establish clear performance expectations, conduct regular performance reviews, and invest in succession planning and the development of future leaders.
- Oversee the stability, performance, and scalability of all IT infrastructure — including cloud environments, POS systems, Ecommerce platform, ERP/CRM integrations, and range-specific applications — ensuring high availability and business continuity across all store locations and online platforms.
- Own Range USA's cybersecurity program and IT Security Policy framework — including strategy, governance, risk management, incident response, compliance, and ongoing policy maintenance — and ensure leadership is regularly informed on cybersecurity metrics, vulnerabilities, and risk mitigation progress.
- Provide strategic direction and oversight for the Web Development and Data Solutions teams, ensuring digital platforms are efficient, secure, and aligned with business objectives, and that data architecture and reporting capabilities support informed decision-making across the organization.
- Oversee the IT project portfolio, ensuring all initiatives are properly vetted, discussed, prioritized, resourced, and delivered on time and within scope; maintain project governance processes and provide regular status reporting to leadership on progress, risks, and escalations.
- Ensure all IT systems and practices meet applicable regulatory requirements — including PCI-DSS, ATF firearms-related data handling standards, and general data privacy requirements — and oversee the annual IT audit process.
Desired skills & experience
- Bachelors degree in computer science, Information Systems, Business, or related field (Masters preferred); equivalent senior-level experience considered.
- 10+ years of progressive IT experience, with at least 5 years in leadership roles (e.g., IT Manager/Director) in retail, multi-location, or customer-facing environments.
- Proven experience managing IT in retail settings, including POS, inventory systems, e-commerce platforms, CRM/ERP integrations, and analytics/BI tools.
- Strong knowledge of cybersecurity, compliance frameworks (PCI DSS, ATF-related data handling), and risk management in regulated industries.
- Hands-on familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure), hybrid infrastructure, networking, disaster recovery, and modern integration patterns.
- Demonstrated ability to lead IT strategy, budget management, vendor negotiations, and large-scale projects/migrations.
- Exceptional leadership skills with experience building and mentoring teams in fast-paced, growth-oriented organizations.
- Outstanding communication and stakeholder management; proven track record advising executives and translating complex tech concepts for non-technical audiences.
- Retail domain knowledge preferred (multi-location operations, omnichannel retail, customer experience tech).
- Experience with change management, organizational transformation, and driving IT-enabled business growth.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize in a dynamic environment, and travel occasionally to support store openings or initiatives.
