POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Nordic Director, the Nordic Center Supervisor trains, schedules, and supervises Nordic Center staff and volunteers in collaboration with the Nordic Director and other Programs Department Staff. The Nordic Center Supervisor will maintain ski lessons schedule, Nordic programming schedule, work with guests and guest groups, communicate with and work with Bryan Mountain Ski Patrol, maintain inventory control, supervise daily shop operations, maintain safety and emergency response, keep Nordic Center clean and organized and assist in preparing for larger Nordic Events as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

- Certified in First Aid, CPR, and AED administration (training provided if needed).

- Working knowledge of business management.

- Demonstrate the ability to fluently read, write and speak English.

- Possess an enthusiasm for winter sports, in particular Nordic Skiing development and guest offerings within the Nordic Center and Program Department.

- Able to operate general office equipment including computer, printer, radios, phone.

- Ability to train, schedule, supervise and evaluate Nordic shop staff and instructors.

- Coordinate and manage all aspects of the Nordic Center when the Nordic Director is not present.

- Uphold the YMCA of the Rockies Mission, policies and programs.

- Support the Association safety program. Promote safe work practices and a safe environment for guests, members and staff.

- Possess excellent customer service skills; for example, friendly, personable, helpful, patient, and professional.

- Must meet acceptable criminal background check standards.

QUALIFICATIONS:

- Oversee daily operations of Nordic Retail and Rental Center.

- Be accountable for staff activities as well as seasonal fluctuations and schedule staff accordingly.

- Promote a cooperative, positive and problem-solving atmosphere/work environment at all times.

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a professional and courteous demeanor toward guests, coworkers, and other staff members.

- Ability to work cooperatively with others in a diverse and busy environment.

- Ability to teach beginner lessons based on PSIA Level 1 training (training provided if needed).

- Practical working knowledge of waxing techniques for both classical and skate skis (training provided if needed).

- Ability to provide clear and accurate technique and waxing advice to guests.

- Familiarity with the Snow Mountain Ranch trail system and a genuine enthusiasm for Nordic skiing (training provided if needed).

- All other duties as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

- Work is indoors and outdoors in a mountain environment with variable weather conditions including cold, snow, and wind.

- Requires standing for long periods, walking on snow-covered terrain, and performing moderate physical activity such as lifting up to 40 lbs.

- Must be able to ski confidently on groomed and ungroomed trails.

- Weekend and holiday availability required during the winter season.

- Work involves frequent guest interaction and maintaining a positive attitude in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
