About this role
Accountabilities:
- Lead the preparation and calculation of quarterly and annual income tax provisions in accordance with ASC 740, including deferred tax assets and liabilities, tax basis balance sheets, and valuation allowance analyses.
- Prepare supporting tax footnote disclosures and tax rate reconciliations while maintaining accurate and well-documented tax accounting workpapers.
- Reconcile monthly, quarterly, and annual sales and use tax returns across multiple state and local jurisdictions, ensuring tax information is complete and accurate.
- Audit and verify customer exemption certificates, investigate billing tax disputes, and support the resolution of indirect tax issues.
- Support state and local sales tax audits by gathering relevant documentation, transaction details, reconciliations, and other required information.
- Prepare month-end, quarter-end, and year-end tax-related general ledger journal entries and maintain accurate tax accounting records.
- Perform detailed monthly balance sheet reconciliations for tax-related accounts, including accrued taxes, deferred taxes, sales tax payable, and payroll tax payable.
- Identify, investigate, and resolve variances or discrepancies in tax accounts promptly, tracing information back to its source to determine underlying issues.
- Serve as a primary tax contact for AP, AR, Accounting, and Legal teams, providing clear guidance and resolving operational tax questions.
- Communicate tax requirements, concepts, and guidelines clearly to non-tax stakeholders while supporting effective collaboration across departments.
Requirements:
- Hold a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, with 2–4 years of relevant tax experience in public accounting, corporate tax, or a hybrid environment.
- Possess working knowledge of ASC 740 income tax accounting principles and general sales tax concepts, with the ability to apply this knowledge to practical tax and accounting activities.
- Demonstrate strong analytical curiosity and a natural tendency to investigate discrepancies, ask questions, trace data to its source, and understand the root causes behind financial or tax issues.
- Be able to explain complex tax concepts clearly and concisely through written documentation, reports, and conversations with non-tax stakeholders.
- Be comfortable working in a structured environment where calculations, workpapers, reconciliations, and supporting documentation are subject to rigorous technical review.
- Demonstrate strong attention to detail, organization, accuracy, and the ability to manage recurring tax and accounting deadlines effectively.
- Experience with tools such as Zuora, Sage, Anrok, or Salesforce is a plus.
- Have experience with or exposure to AI-powered tools and an interest in using technology to improve efficiency and effectiveness within tax operations.
- A CPA designation or progress toward CPA certification is considered a bonus.
