Overview
We are looking for a Messaging Platform Engineer to support the development, operation, and continuous improvement of our enterprise messaging platform based on IBM MQ .
This role is ideal for an engineer who has hands‑on experience with messaging systems and wants to grow their skills in a large‑scale, business‑critical environment. You will work closely with senior engineers and platform leads to help maintain reliable, secure, and performant messaging services used across the organisation
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
- Support the day‑to‑day operation of the IBM MQ messaging platform across multiple environments.
- Assist with the installation, configuration, and maintenance of IBM MQ components.
- Monitor platform health, investigate issues, and help resolve incidents and service disruptions .
- Participate in change, release, and patching activities under guidance from senior engineers.
- Help implement and follow operational standards, runbooks, and best practices .
- Work with application teams to support onboarding, connectivity, and troubleshooting .
- Contribute to documentation , knowledge sharing, and platform improvements.
- Support security, compliance, and audit requirements related to messaging services.
- Take part in on‑call or support rotations where required.
Qualifications
Required Skills & Experience
- Hands‑on experience working with IBM MQ (or a strong understanding of enterprise messaging concepts).
- Experience supporting production systems in a Linux or Unix‑based environment.
- Basic understanding of:
Messaging patterns (point‑to‑point, pub/sub)
- High availability and resilience concepts
- Networking fundamentals
- Familiarity with scripting (e.g. Bash, Python, or similar) for operational tasks.
- Experience using monitoring and alerting tools .
- Ability to follow processes, troubleshoot issues, and escalate effectively when needed.
- Good communication skills and willingness to work collaboratively with other teams.
Nice to Have
- Exposure to other messaging or streaming technologies (e.g. Kafka, ActiveMQ, AMQ).
- Basic knowledge of containers or Kubernetes .
- Experience working in a regulated or financial services environment.
- Understanding of ITIL or structured incident / change management processes.
