Job Summary: The primary responsibility of the Yard Associate is to safely and efficiently load and unload building materials while providing excellent service to customers. This position assists customers with loading purchases, receives and unloads vendor deliveries, stocks and organizes building materials, and labels and tracks special-order products. The Yard Associate is also responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and organized lumber yard and assisting with other yard duties as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Learn and maintain knowledge of company products, procedures, culture, and customer service standards.
- Accurately load and unload customer orders in accordance with applicable paperwork and invoices.
- Receive, organize, label, and store building materials according to company procedures.
- Safely operate forklifts and other yard equipment as required.
- Follow established yard loading, unloading, and delivery procedures.
- Accurately document merchandise returns on credit memos, place returned materials in designated areas, and assist with ensuring materials are returned to the appropriate vendor.
- Provide friendly and helpful customer service by assisting customers with their daily product and material needs.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized yard and work environment.
- Perform job duties outdoors in all types of weather conditions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Skills, Knowledge, and Qualifications:
- Valid drivers license required.
- CDL preferred, but not required.
- Forklift experience preferred.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Desire to learn, develop new skills, and grow professionally.
- Ability to respond quickly to problems and handle situations accurately and professionally.
- Self-motivated, dependable, and organized.
- Ability to stand and/or walk for 4–10 hours per day.
- Ability to lift and carry 50+ pounds as needed.
- Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, and perform other physical movements required to complete job duties.
- Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
