Job Title: Quality Supervisor Job Description The Quality Supervisor oversees all quality control and assurance activities within a fast-paced food or pharmaceutical manufacturing environment. This role ensures that all products consistently meet customer and product specifications, that equipment and work areas comply with SQF standards, and that quality technicians receive effective guidance and support. The Quality Supervisor performs and reviews a wide range of tests, manages product holds and investigations, and leads continuous improvement efforts to maintain high standards of food safety, product integrity, and regulatory compliance. Responsibilities
- Ensure all products meet defined customer and product requirements through rigorous quality checks and documentation.
- Maintain all work areas and equipment in compliance with SQF standards, ensuring they remain clean and orderly at all times.
- Verify that all required personal protective and practice equipment is properly worn at all times in the production and quality areas.
- Ensure all equipment is correctly set up, calibrated, and functioning properly throughout the shift, and keep all equipment clean, organized, and ready for the next production run.
- Perform microbiological testing on products and samples in accordance with established procedures.
- Conduct batch balance checks, including measurements of Brix, salt, pH, acidity, and alcohol, and record results accurately.
- Collect ingredient samples from bulk containers and perform required testing to verify quality and compliance with specifications.
- Recommend adjustments to batches by adding or subtracting ingredients based on test results to ensure product quality and consistency.
- Monitor filler machines and production lines by checking product weights, codes, labeling, and pasteurizer temperatures, and take corrective action when needed.
- Verify product codes closely, recognizing that ink can run dry or codes can be set incorrectly, and ensure accurate coding on all products.
- Perform visual inspections and record results, weigh product on calibrated scales, obtain and deliver samples to the QC bench, perform tests, and document all findings.
- Place batches or finished products on hold when required based on test results or quality concerns, and manage hold status appropriately.
- Carry out all other assigned duties required during the work period to support quality and production needs.
- Oversee quality technicians and address all quality-related concerns, providing guidance and direction as needed.
- Investigate quality matters, including supplier-related issues and customer-driven concerns, and document findings.
- Fill in for technicians during absences to ensure continuous quality coverage on production lines.
- Ensure appropriate coverage of departmental personnel for all production lines and quality checkpoints.
- Conduct mock recalls in accordance with customer requirements and internal procedures.
- Cross-check analysis performed by QA technicians to verify accuracy and consistency of test results.
- Actively organize, review, and improve quality processes to drive continuous improvement in product and process performance.
- Verify that all product holds are accurately entered into Oracle and maintained in the system.
- Confirm that all work orders related to any quality holds have been completed and distributed to the appropriate personnel.
- Create necessary work orders based on the results of additional quality testing and follow up to ensure completion.
- Remove or adjust product holds as appropriate once issues are resolved or additional testing is complete.
- Participate in kosher and regulatory audits, supporting preparation, documentation, and on-site audit activities.
- Notify suppliers and vendors of any holds or informational notices created due to defective materials, and ensure defective materials are removed in a timely manner.
- Investigate customer complaints, determine root causes, and complete all required paperwork to document findings and corrective actions.
- Coach, mentor, and develop staff, including preparing and conducting employee performance appraisals.
- Maintain employee work schedules, including timecard approval, work assignments, job rotation, training, vacations, and paid time off.
- Report food safety and quality problems promptly to personnel with the authority to initiate corrective and preventive actions.
Essential Skills
- Minimum of a high school diploma or GED.
- At least 3 years of quality experience in food or pharmaceutical manufacturing.
- At least 2 years of previous supervisory experience in a manufacturing or quality environment.
- Strong ability to work with numbers and perform accurate calculations related to quality testing and batch adjustments.
- Mechanical aptitude and the ability to understand and work with production and testing equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with limited supervision while managing multiple priorities.
- Effective communication skills, with the ability to work closely with all departments and levels of management.
- Ability to keep up with a fast-paced work environment and record data accurately and in a timely manner.
- Proficiency in using quality control tools and equipment such as distillers, microscopes, microbiological plates, refractometers, acid titrators, pH meters, various gauges, torque meters, and other testing equipment as required.
- Experience using handcarts and pallet handling equipment in a manufacturing or warehouse setting.
- Familiarity with Oracle systems for managing holds, work orders, and quality-related data.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications for documentation, reporting, and communication.
- Hands-on experience with quality control, quality assurance, inspection, visual inspection, quality checks, and quality inspection processes.
- Ability to use precision measuring tools such as calipers and micrometers.
- Understanding and application of GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) in a production environment.
- Capability to oversee and coach technicians and staff, including performance management and scheduling.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in food or pharmaceutical manufacturing environments with strong focus on product safety and regulatory compliance.
- Experience in conducting microbiological testing and interpreting results.
- Experience monitoring filler machines, pasteurizers, and related production equipment for quality parameters.
- Ability to perform and interpret measurements such as Brix, salt, pH, acidity, and alcohol for batch balancing.
- Experience participating in kosher and regulatory audits and supporting audit readiness.
- Strong organizational skills for managing holds, work orders, documentation, and staff schedules.
- Experience investigating supplier issues and customer complaints, including root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Ability to lead continuous improvement initiatives within quality processes and procedures.
- Comfort working with ERP systems, particularly Oracle, for quality and production data management.
- Proficiency in documenting quality findings, test results, and investigation reports in a clear and structured manner.
Work Environment This role operates in a manufacturing facility where temperatures in the work area vary and conditions can change throughout the shift. The environment is very wet and slippery, with continuous forklift traffic, requiring strong awareness of safety procedures and surroundings. The Quality Supervisor frequently handles and works around various moving equipment and chemicals and regularly uses hot and cold water to perform checks and clean equipment and work areas. The position involves long-term standing, constant movement on foot, frequent bending, and regular climbing of stairs to access all areas where product and testing equipment are located. The work requires frequent grasping and handling of objects, samples, and equipment. The environment is fast-paced and highly focused on food safety, product quality, and adherence to GMP and SQF standards, with regular interaction across production, quality, and other departments.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $77000.00 - $85500.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
