Medical Assistants perform clinical and administrative support tasks necessary for efficient center operations to ensure high quality client services and support, informed consent, client education and counseling, effective clinical support, efficient client flow, in a professional health care environment. The position is located at our PPM center in Annapolis, Maryland and reports to the Health Center Manager.
Inside the Role
As a Medical Assistant at PPM, you will perform the essential clinical and administrative support tasks necessary for efficient center operations. You will be a vital part of the patient experience, guiding clients through their visit, assisting providers during exams, and ensuring every individual feels respected and informed about their reproductive health choices.
Your Day-to-Day Impact
- Empower through education: Provide empathetic, non-directive counseling to clients, offering vital information on contraceptive options, pregnancy, and STI risks consistent with each patient’s value system.
- Support clinical excellence: Assist our medical providers during examinations and procedures, ensuring strict adherence to PPM’s Standard Operating Procedures and Medical Standards and Guidelines.
- Champion the patient experience: Act as a welcoming, service-oriented guide for patients, ensuring informed consent is obtained and answering questions regarding procedures, lab tests, and medications.
- Drive daily operations: Seamlessly manage front and back-office tasks, from greeting clients and verifying insurance for next-day appointments to confidently navigating our Epic electronic medical records (EMR) system.
What You Need to Succeed
- High school diploma or GED and graduation from an accredited medical assistant program.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in an outpatient clinical setting OR 2 years of experience performing front/back office MA duties in a healthcare setting.
- Excellent customer service, time management, and communication skills, with the ability to handle sensitive patient interactions without judgment.
- Preferred: Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential, ultrasound experience, and a working knowledge of Epic EMR.
- Bonus: Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish is a huge plus!
