Job Title: Construction Superintendent Job Description This role oversees complex pharmaceutical construction projects in a highly regulated, safety-focused environment. The Construction Superintendent leads field operations, manages multiple subcontractors, drives aggressive project schedules, and ensures strict compliance with safety and documentation standards while delivering large-scale projects to completion. Responsibilities

- Manage approximately 10–15 subcontractors across multiple trades, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, drywall, flooring, roofing, casework, fire protection and sprinklers, structural contractors, and specialty equipment contractors.
- Direct daily subcontractor activities on site and provide clear guidance to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality execution of all work.
- Hold contractors accountable for performance, safety, quality, and adherence to schedule and project requirements.
- Drive completion of all milestone activities and maintain an aggressive project schedule from start to finish.
- Identify schedule impacts proactively, including potential delays and constraints, and develop mitigation strategies to keep the project on track.
- Manage predecessor and successor tasks to ensure proper sequencing of construction activities and logical workflow on site.
- Communicate any schedule delays immediately to relevant stakeholders and propose corrective actions as needed.
- Reallocate labor, equipment, and other resources when necessary to address changing site conditions and schedule priorities.
- Enforce all safety standards on site, ensuring that all workers follow established procedures and protocols.
- Ensure lockout/tagout procedures are fully implemented and followed for all applicable equipment and systems.
- Verify and manage hot work permits, ensuring that all hot work activities comply with safety regulations and site policies.
- Conduct daily safety coordination activities, including walk-throughs, briefings, and reinforcement of safety expectations.
- Maintain an OSHA-compliant work environment and promote a safety-first culture throughout the project.
- Interface regularly with client safety representatives to align on safety requirements, inspections, and corrective actions.
- Resolve field issues promptly, including constructability challenges, conflicts between trades, and unforeseen site conditions.
- Push schedule execution by coordinating trades, sequencing work, and removing obstacles that could impede progress.
- Communicate regularly with the office team to provide updates on schedule, safety, quality, and field conditions.
- Escalate potential change orders in a timely manner, providing clear documentation and justification for scope changes.
- Communicate field conditions that may affect design, schedule, cost, or safety, and collaborate on appropriate responses.
- Coordinate with office staff regarding project updates, documentation, and reporting requirements.
- Track contractor performance, including productivity, quality, safety compliance, and adherence to contractual obligations.
- Oversee demolition activities, ensuring safe execution and proper coordination with ongoing operations.
- Manage high-density storage relocation efforts, coordinating logistics and minimizing impact on facility operations.
- Supervise construction of new support spaces, ensuring alignment with design specifications and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate installation of fire protection systems, including FM-200 systems, pre-action sprinkler systems, fire dampers, and alarm integrations.
- Plan and manage multi-phase logistical sequencing to support construction in an occupied facility while maintaining operations.
- Participate in or lead daily coordination and planning meetings to align trades, schedule, safety, and logistics.

Essential Skills

- Proven superintendent experience leading large pharmaceutical construction projects in the range of approximately $50–$100 million.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple subcontractors simultaneously across a wide range of trades and disciplines.
- Strong background in safety management, including hands-on enforcement of safety standards and procedures.
- Extensive pharmaceutical project experience in highly regulated environments with strict compliance requirements.
- Ability to work extended hours and double shifts when required to meet aggressive project schedules.
- Proficiency in construction sequencing to ensure logical and efficient progression of work.
- Experience with site logistics planning, including material flow, equipment placement, and trade coordination.
- Deep knowledge of safety compliance, including OSHA standards and site-specific safety protocols.
- Strong schedule management skills, with experience driving milestone completion and managing critical paths.
- Expertise in contractor coordination, ensuring alignment of trades and timely execution of work.
- Ability to read and interpret construction documents, including drawings, specifications, and related technical materials.
- Experience in field supervision, overseeing day-to-day construction activities and resolving on-site issues.
- background in construction safety and construction supervision, with a focus on maintaining safe work practices.
- Hands-on experience with Procore or similar construction management platforms.
- OSHA 30 certification or equivalent advanced safety training in construction environments.
- Experience in construction management, subcontractor management, field management, and quality control.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

- Experience working in GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) environments, particularly within pharmaceutical or similarly regulated facilities.
- Healthcare construction experience, including projects in clinical or hospital settings.
- Laboratory construction experience, involving specialized systems and strict environmental controls.
- Industrial facility construction experience, especially in complex, process-driven operations.
- Familiarity with Autodesk tools to support coordination, documentation, or design review.
- background as a former General Contractor Superintendent, with broad exposure to diverse project types and delivery methods.
- Experience delivering projects with compressed schedules and managing the associated logistical and coordination challenges.
- Ability to identify change orders proactively based on field conditions, design changes, or scope adjustments.
- Experience with project documentation systems, including tracking RFIs, submittals, and daily reports.
- Strong communication skills for collaborating with office staff, safety representatives, and client stakeholders.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining thorough, accurate project documentation.
- Adaptability to work in multi-phase projects and occupied facilities while maintaining safety and minimizing disruption.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of Cranbury, NJ.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $60.10 - $64.90/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
