UTILITY TECHNICIAN

Bridgewater College is seeking a skilled Utility Technician with a background in carpentry and general maintenance trades to support campus facilities operations. This hands-on role includes carpentry, painting, and general repair work that helps keep our campus safe, functional, and well-maintained.

WHAT YOULL DO:

Drywall Repair & Patch Painting Focus

- Surface Preparation & Restoration: Perform drywall, plaster, and sheetrock repairs, including patching holes, taping, mudding, sanding, and feathering seams to create smooth, seamless finishes.

- Patch & Finish Painting: Color-match, blend, and apply primers, touch-up paints, stains, or sealants to repaired interior drywall, plaster, trim, and exterior surfaces.

- Wall & Ceiling Maintenance: Repair gouges, water damage, stress cracks, and minor plaster defects on walls and ceilings

General Carpentry & Maintenance

- Structural Repairs: Assemble, install, and repair wooden and masonry structures, doors, window frames, trim, cabinetry, and interior hardware (locks, hinges, handles).

- Fixture & Surface Installation: Install or replace ceiling/floor tiles, counter tops, window blinds, and shades.

- Conduct regular building sweeps to proactively identify necessary repairs, resolve minor facility issues, and replace light bulbs or basic fixtures before work orders are generated.

- Perform timely repairs within student housing facilities, including fixing or adjusting built-in cabinetry, dorm furniture, desks, bed frames, drawers, and related woodwork.

Support Facilities Operations:

- Complete work orders accurately and maintain detailed maintenance records.

- Maintain tools, equipment, and parts inventory.

- Assist contractors working on campus mechanical systems.

- Participate in special event setup, snow removal, and emergency response, as needed.

- Participate in an on-call rotation for a minimum of 8 weeks per year to support after-hours emergency facility needs. Receive an additional weekly stipend during on-call coverage, plus a guaranteed 2-hour minimum pay for any physical, on-campus response.

WHAT YOU BRING:

- High school diploma or GED

- 2+ years of experience in carpentry, maintenance, or related skilled trades

- Knowledge of materials used in carpentry/masonry work, inc. lumber, putties, finishes, stains, paints, plasters, cement, and related hardware

- Ability to operate motorized equipment requiring manual dexterity

- Maintain a valid VA drivers license with a good driving record that meets the BC driver policy.
