EHS Consultant (Part Time)

Job Title: Part-Time Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Consultant Job Description
This part-time Environmental Health & Safety Consultant role supports an active industrial site in Delaware by coordinating and implementing key EHS programs and compliance activities. Working under the direction of a Project Manager, you will help design, roll out, and sustain foundational safety systems across the facility, while collaborating with multiple departments and vendors. The position offers approximately 24 hours per week, with an expected onsite presence of three days per week.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate the rollout of the personal protective equipment (PPE) program, including establishing PPE requirements, replenishment processes, inventory management, and deployment of PPE stations across the site.
- Create color-coded PPE maps using existing site drawings to clearly communicate PPE requirements for different areas of the facility.
- Develop cradle-to-grave process flow diagrams for site waste streams, documenting workflow steps, ownership, and departmental responsibilities.
- Design and implement environmental and safety signage for waste handling areas, ensuring compliant labeling and clear visual examples to support safe practices.
- Support spill response readiness by helping define procedures, equipment needs, and communication protocols for effective spill response programs.
- Assist in establishing first aid stations and supporting first aid program administration, including readiness checks and basic compliance activities.
- Conduct routine contractor safety audits in the field, observing contractors installing equipment and performing work onsite, identifying safety concerns, documenting findings, and tracking corrective actions.
- Manage and support EHS compliance activities within Gensuite or similar EHS management systems, including tracking inspections, corrective actions, and program status.
- Assist with inspection program development, including creating inspection checklists, scheduling inspections, and documenting results.
- Track corrective actions arising from inspections, audits, and incidents, ensuring timely follow-up and closure while maintaining accurate documentation.
- Support incident investigation documentation by helping capture details, contributing to root cause analysis, and documenting corrective and preventive actions.
- Assist with the development and implementation of safe work permit programs, including permit forms, procedures, and supporting documentation for permit-to-work processes.
- Support implementation of site safety programs such as first aid readiness, spill response preparedness, waste management requirements, and permit-to-work processes.
- Convert technical EHS and environmental requirements into clear visual documentation, work instructions, and guidance materials for operations and contractor groups.
- Collaborate effectively with operations, engineering, maintenance, and contractor teams to communicate EHS expectations and support program adoption.
- Serve as a key contributor to site-wide EHS initiatives, programs, inspections, corrective actions, and overall compliance activities, helping build foundational safety systems at a growing facility.
Essential Skills
- Demonstrated experience supporting Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) programs in manufacturing, industrial, construction, distribution, or engineering environments.
- Hands-on experience performing safety inspections and audits, including identifying hazards, documenting findings, and following up on corrective actions.
- Practical knowledge of contractor safety auditing and field observations in active construction or equipment installation areas.
- Experience with PPE program administration, including coordination with vendors and internal stakeholders for PPE requirements, replenishment, and inventory management.
- Strong understanding of safety compliance, including first aid readiness, spill response preparedness, waste management requirements, and permit-to-work processes.
- Familiarity with environmental compliance and waste management processes, including waste stream documentation and process flow mapping.
- Ability to develop process flow diagrams and convert technical requirements into visual documentation and clear work instructions.
- Experience creating safety and environmental signage, including compliant labeling and visual guidance for waste handling and operational areas.
- Knowledge of work permit programs and safe work permit procedures in industrial or construction settings.
- Strong documentation skills, with the ability to maintain accurate records of inspections, audits, incidents, and corrective actions.
- Effective follow-up skills to ensure timely completion of corrective actions and implementation of EHS initiatives.
- Ability to work independently onsite with limited supervision while managing multiple tasks and priorities.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively across operations, engineering, maintenance, and contractor groups.
- Experience with EHS management systems such as Gensuite or similar platforms is preferred.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- CHST (Construction Health and Safety Technician) certification preferred but not required.
- CSP (Certified Safety Professional) certification preferred but not required.
- Background in industrial safety and construction safety is beneficial.
- Experience with hazard communication programs and related documentation is an advantage.
- Knowledge of waste management programs and environmental compliance practices is helpful.
- Experience supporting spill response programs and first aid program administration is desirable.
- Ability to collaborate with project leadership and cross-functional teams to implement EHS initiatives.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail when building safety systems, processes, and compliance infrastructure.
- Interest in broad exposure to environmental, health, and safety functions and in contributing to a growing site.
- Motivation to leave a visible impact through development of safety systems, processes, and compliance frameworks.
- Comfort working in a mix of office, field, and facility environments with varying activities and stakeholders.
Work Environment
This role is based in Middletown, Delaware, within an industrial, manufacturing, and distribution facility setting. The schedule is part-time at approximately 24 hours per week, with an expected onsite presence of three days per week. The work involves a mix of office tasks, field work, and facility walk-throughs, including exposure to active construction zones and equipment installation areas. You will move between operational areas, waste handling locations, and contractor work sites, engaging in both planning and hands-on observation. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is required when entering operational and construction areas, and you will help support the PPE program and safety standards throughout the facility. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $45.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
