LOCATION: Great Hearts Christian Academy - Gilbert, 1820 W Elliot Rd Gilbert, AZ 85233
REPORTS TO: Academy Headmaster
FLSA STATUS: Exempt
POSITION SUMMARY
Great Hearts Christian Academy - Gilbert is accepting applications for a long-term 3rd grade substitute teacher. Teachers are the most important daily leaders and shapers of intellectual and ethical culture on our campuses. Every teacher is a role model and must always act and speak as one.

REQUIRMENTS
- All substitute teachers are required to have a valid, current fingerprint clearance card
- The Great Hearts Christian Academies Statement of Faith as outlined on our website, all Great Hearts Christian Academies employees (including substitutes) must acknowledge this statement by signing upon hire
Duties & Responsibilities
- Create a classroom environment that will feel safe for all students to learn and reach their fullest potential.
- Follow lesson plans.
- Maintain orderly classroom .
- Provide timely and meaningful evaluation/correction of student work.
- Engage students utilizing the Socratic method .
- Lead students through intelligence, charisma, humor, moral integrity, and example .
- He/she must fully embrace the school's vision of community, of learning, and of leadership.
- Perform additional assigned campus duties.
- Reads, knows, and supports the philosophy, policies, procedures and other pertinent data of the school as published in the Faculty Handbook and most current Family Handbook .
- Follow school policies and procedures, including the Academy Crisis Plan, for ensuring the safety and security of students on campus.
- Provides reasonable assistance to those students in need of individual help and assists students to make-up work after approved absences.
- Communicate as needed with parents.
- Supports and enforces the school dress and behavior codes and makes reasonable efforts to promote the orderly behavior of all students in the school, on the grounds, and at off-campus school activities.
- Keeps accurate records and makes reports as required by the Headmaster .
- Evaluate and document the student’s day-to-day work .
- Participate in faculty development on half-days as needed .
- Is an active member of the community of learners, and continues to pursue his or her own professional growth and development by taking graduate courses and/or attending seminars and workshops related to the profession .
- Pursues excellence in teaching and continues to develop his or her own knowledge of the great ideas and works of Western Civilization.
Qualifications, Competencies & Strengths
Education/ Experience:
- Long-term Substitute Teachers must have a bachelor's degree and be highly qualified in the subjects they teach.
- Archway (K-5) grades, and all 6th grade teachers must have passed the NES Elementary content knowledge test (an equivalent test like the Praxis), offered by the state multiple times each year . This test covers academic content knowledge across all disciplines (science, math, literature, history, etc.).
Licenses or certifications
- Certification is not required to teach at any of the Great Hearts Academies. Great Hearts teachers, whether certified or not, demonstrate a commitment to and love for the liberal arts.
- Fingerprint Clearance: S hall have a valid Arizona Department of Public Safety IVP fingerprint clearance card.
Physical functions:
- Must be able to maintain a stationary position for 25% of the time.
- May occasionally move around the classroom, position self to be level with student desks and communicate accurate information and converse with others for 75% of the time.
Work Environment:
- May be required to move or position equipment up to 10-15 pounds.
- May be exposed to outdoor weather.
Equipment used:
- Some computer use expected.
Some travel may be required for special events and/or field trips.
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal history background check and fingerprint clearance in accordance with state requirements.
Travel required: May need to travel locally for training and professional development opportunities.
