Job Title: Certified Medical Assistant Job Description
This Certified Medical Assistant position primarily supports internal medicine and family medicine, with some exposure to pediatrics. The role focuses on robust chart preparation, accurate documentation in the electronic health record, clinical support for in-office procedures and point-of-care testing, and occasional front office duties such as patient check-in and check-out during later shifts. The position is primarily back office, with flexibility to assist in the front office as needed.
Responsibilities
- Support internal medicine, family medicine, and occasional pediatric visits by preparing patients and exam rooms for clinical encounters.
- Perform robust chart prepping for all providers and medical assistants, including reviewing and organizing patient information in advance of scheduled visits.
- Navigate and utilize multiple clinical portals such as Quest, Radnet, and Nextgen EMR to locate and review medical records, lab work, and radiology reports.
- Obtain and document patient medical history, current medication lists, and vital signs accurately in the electronic health record (EHR).
- Assist providers with in-office procedures, including pap smears, in-house urinalysis, point-of-care testing, and lab draws.
- Conduct point-of-care testing and in-house urinalysis, ensuring proper specimen handling and accurate recording of results.
- Perform lab draws as directed, following appropriate clinical and safety protocols.
- Clean and disinfect exam rooms thoroughly after each patient examination, maintaining a safe and hygienic environment.
- Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations, ensuring rooms are adequately stocked with appropriate medical supplies.
- Manage administrative tasks related to patient charts, including locating information, organizing documentation, and ensuring completeness and accuracy.
- Use separate portals such as RADnet and Quest to access and verify medical records, lab work, and radiology results as needed for patient care.
- Participate in designated administrative days to complete charting and prep work for all providers and medical assistants for the upcoming week.
- Potentially assist with front desk duties, including patient check-in and check-out, particularly during later shifts.
- Utilize computers and software applications, including Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word), to support clinical and administrative workflows.
Essential Skills
- Certification as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) through CCBMA or NCCT.
- Graduation from an accredited medical assistant program.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to obtain CPR and first aid certification within 60 days of hire.
- Experience performing clinical tasks such as pap smears assistance, in-house urinalysis, point-of-care testing, and lab draws.
- Proficiency in obtaining and accurately documenting patient medical history, medication lists, and vital signs in an EHR.
- Ability to navigate and utilize electronic health records and clinical portals, including Nextgen EMR, Quest, and Radnet.
- Basic to intermediate proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word).
- Strong organizational skills to support robust chart prepping and administrative chart management.
- Ability to maintain clean, disinfected, and well-stocked exam and treatment rooms.
- Capability to work primarily in a back office clinical setting while supporting front office functions as needed.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- One year of experience in family medicine (preferred) or internal medicine is desired.
- Familiarity with internal family medicine workflows and acute care environments.
- Experience in charting and documentation in outpatient clinical settings.
- Comfort assisting with pediatric patients on occasion.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in handling medical records, lab work, and radiology reports.
- Effective communication skills for interacting with patients, providers, and clinical staff.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively in a busy outpatient practice.
- Adaptability to perform both clinical and administrative duties, including potential front desk responsibilities.
Work Environment
This role is based in an outpatient clinical practice setting that serves internal medicine, family medicine, and some pediatric patients. Training occurs Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. After training, the schedule transitions to Monday through Friday, either 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. or 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The environment is primarily back office, with exam and treatment rooms where clinical procedures, vital signs, and point-of-care testing are performed, and occasional front office work such as patient check-in and check-out. Team members regularly use electronic health records and clinical portals, including Nextgen EMR, Quest, and Radnet, as well as Microsoft Office applications. The dress code for this position is black scrubs, reflecting a professional clinical setting focused on patient care and safety.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Victorville, CA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $21.81 - $23.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
