About this role
The Operations Supervisor is responsible for managing; supervising and supporting required maintenance or construction. This role is responsible for maintaining the proper coverage for the area of responsibility. As directed by leadership, the Operations Supervisor must satisfy the requirements of the Medical Center. The Operations Supervisor is responsible for the organization of work, customer satisfaction, supervision of employees, staff development, process improvement and problem solving in the delivery of services. Effectively interact with customers with diverse cultural backgrounds.
Principal Responsibilities:
Supervises and supports required maintenance or construction. Maintains the proper coverage for the area of responsibility.
Plans and assigns work to staff, following-up on work completion and productivity issues.
Facilitates the continuing training of the staff as required by regulatory agencies and as needed to maintain a safe and efficient working environment.
Primarily responsible for the twenty-four (24) hour planning, organizing, directing and controlling of the daily operations of assigned facilities at various locations on-site or off-site and occasional back-up responsibility for management when not on-site.
Ensures compliance with state and federal laws, accreditation, professional and regulatory agency standards and licensure requirements. Maintains staff compliance with medical center policies, procedures and protocols.
Works collaboratively with various departments including Environmental Health and Safety, Comparative Medicine, Sponsored Research & Funds Administration and Plant Operations to ensure regulatory compliance for audits, city inspections, and medical center requirements.
Collaborates with management in cross-functional process improvement, collaborative teamwork, open communication and problem solving to ensure the effective coordination and integration of services within and between units.
Reports and escalates operational challenges to management to ensure timely resolution and minimize adverse customer tensions.
Participates on committees such as department Policies and Procedures, Job Descriptions, Construction, and Hazardous Waste.
Education:
High School Diploma/GED - Required
Assoc. Degree/College Diploma, Engineering or other related field - Preferred
Bachelor's Degree, Engineering or other related field -Preferred
Work Experience:
5 years of direct experience with the trade work of the area of responsibility in a healthcare facility. Specific knowledge/experience/skills of building system operations and maintenance. Experience in one of the following disciplines: Plant Operations, MEP, Industrial, Utility, or Power Plant experience, Research or Healthcare construction - Required
3 years Prior Supervisory, leadership or Foreman’s experience -Preferred
Licenses and Certifications:
Plant Operations: Electric: Journeymen electrician license Upon Hire - Required
Plant Operations: HVAC: Universal EPA Certification Upon Hire - Required
Research: Certified Building Manager Upon Hire - Required
Research: Certified Project Manager Upon Hire - Required
Plant Operations: City of Los Angeles Boiler Operator’s License -Preferred
Plant Operations: Building Operations Certification-Preferred
Plant Operations: Medical Gas Maintenance Certification -Preferred
Travel Requirements:
50% Research Facilities Operations - Travel between on-site and off-site research locations
Valid Driver's License Required:
For use of two department vehicles that may need to be driven from time to time.
May require travel between on-site and off-site research locations
