Road & Rail Services is seeking an experienced Railcar Repair Mechanic with a proven background in professional mechanical repair, welding, fabrication, equipment maintenance, or a closely related skilled trade.

This is a skilled-trade position and previous mechanical experience is required. We are looking for professionals who already understand how to diagnose mechanical problems, work safely with industrial tools, complete repairs, and take pride in the quality of their workmanship.

Previous railroad experience is preferred but not required. Experienced industrial mechanics, diesel mechanics, heavy equipment mechanics, trailer mechanics, maintenance technicians, welders/fabricators, and other qualified mechanical professionals are encouraged to apply.

Your Responsibilities

As a Railcar Repair Mechanic, you will inspect, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair rail equipment in accordance with applicable safety and repair requirements.

Responsibilities include:

Inspect railcars for mechanical defects, structural damage, wear, and fatigue

Diagnose problems and determine appropriate repair procedures

Repair, adjust, remove, and replace mechanical and structural components

Perform authorized repairs according to customer and applicable AAR requirements

Complete welding, cutting, grinding, fitting, and metal fabrication

Operate MIG and stick welding equipment when qualified

Safely use cutting torches and other industrial repair equipment

Operate grinders, impact tools, pneumatic tools, sockets, ratchets, pipe wrenches, and related equipment

Inspect completed work for quality and proper operation

Maintain accountability for assigned tools and equipment

Keep repair areas organized and free of safety hazards

Follow all company, customer, and industry safety procedures

Required Experience & Qualifications

Candidates must have previous professional mechanical, welding, fabrication, or industrial maintenance experience .

Successful candidates should demonstrate:

Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability

Professional experience completing mechanical repairs

Experience safely operating hand, power, and pneumatic tools

Welding and/or metal fabrication experience

Ability to read and follow repair procedures and safety instructions

Dependable attendance and professional work habits

Commitment to completing repairs correctly and safely

Ability to work independently and as part of a skilled maintenance team

Physical & Work Environment

This is an active industrial rail repair position performed primarily outdoors. Employees work around railcars, heavy equipment, tools, and active operations in heat, cold, rain, dust, and varying weather conditions.

The position requires standing, walking, bending, squatting, twisting, climbing, and working from ladders exceeding 16 feet. Railcar doors may require approximately 90 pounds of pulling force and 68 pounds of pushing force .
