About this role

Position Summary

The Facilities & Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing routine and preventive maintenance across Wilton Rancherias tribal facilities, properties, and grounds, with a primary focus on facilities and general maintenance. The position also includes the upkeep, preservation, and respectful maintenance of Tribal cemeteries. The position reports to the Facilities & Maintenance Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Perform routine building maintenance and repair tasks in one or more skilled areas, including carpentry, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, painting, and general construction.

- Paint, remodel, refurbish, and repair interior and exterior areas as needed.

- Repair, maintain, and monitor equipment, systems, and amenities to ensure safe and efficient operation.

- Replace HVAC filters and perform basic system checks as required.

- Change interior and exterior light bulbs and fixtures.

- Prepare facilities for meetings, events, classes, and programs, including furniture set-up and removal.

- Perform general cleaning and coordinate or oversee contracted trash removal and facility cleaning services.

- Maintain exterior properties, including grounds, walkways, parking areas, and building perimeters.

- Assist with equipment installations, removals, and relocations.

- Support departments with facility-related needs and special projects as requested.

- Occasionally drive on behalf of the Tribe for events, programs, deliveries, and vehicle maintenance coordination.

- Follow all safety policies, procedures, and regulatory standards, and properly use personal protective equipment (PPE).

- Maintain Tribal cemeteries and related property grounds, including mowing, trimming, weeding, landscaping, and general upkeep.

- Ensure proper care and preservation of grave markers, headstones, monuments, fencing, and cemetery structures.

- Dig graves to specified dimensions and depths using hand tools or equipment, in compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.

- Prepare burial sites by removing sod, soil, and obstructions.

- Track and maintain tools, equipment, and supplies.

- Maintain accurate records related to maintenance and inventory.

- Ensure all cemetery work respects and honors Wilton Rancherias cultural traditions, protocols related to burial practices.

- Relay cemetery-related inquiries and concerns to the supervisor in a timely manner.

- Perform other maintenance-related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

- Working knowledge of building maintenance, repair practices, tools, and equipment.

- Mechanical and basic electrical troubleshooting abilities.

- Knowledge and understanding of Wilton Rancheria tribal cultural traditions and protocols, related to cemetery and burial practices.

- Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.

- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment across multiple departments.

- Effective oral and written communication skills.

- Proficiency in basic computer applications, including email, word processing, spreadsheets, and data entry.

- Knowledge of applicable safety regulations, standards, and best practices.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required.

Prior experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping, or cemetery care is preferred.

Must pass a pre-employment background security check.

Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and comply with random drug testing throughout employment.

Valid, unrestricted CA drivers license and must be insurable under Wilton Rancherias automobile insurance requirements.

Must be available to work evenings, weekends, and on-call hours as required for emergencies, events, or burial services.

Physical Requirements and Work Conditions

Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds.

Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, squat, climb ladders, and work in confined or elevated spaces.

Manual dexterity to safely operate hand tools, power tools, machinery, and equipment.

Work is performed in a variety of environments, including offices, warehouses, outdoor settings, cemeteries, and construction or maintenance areas.

Exposure to hot or cold temperatures, dust, noise, hazardous chemicals, and outdoor weather conditions.

Required to wear appropriate PPE, including gloves, goggles, face shields, respirators, or other safety equipment as needed.
