About this role

Accountabilities:

- Serve as the primary commercial finance regulatory advisor to business units, helping ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies.

- Monitor the organization’s overall credit risk profile and assess alignment with Board-approved risk appetite.

- Strengthen and promote a consistent credit culture across the organization.

- Provide credible challenge to lending decisions throughout the credit lifecycle, including underwriting strategies, problem loan administration, risk ratings, nonaccrual status, and collateral valuations.

- Assess commercial credit programs and practices to identify potential regulatory, financial, operational, and reputational risks.

- Advise business and senior leadership on complex credit and risk-related decisions.

- Monitor regulatory developments and assess their potential impact on commercial credit products and business activities.

- Develop and deliver training for first-line teams on commercial credit, regulatory requirements, risk management, and related topics.

- Administer and participate in credit-related committees, working groups, and governance forums.

- Prepare risk reports, analyze findings, and communicate key insights and recommendations to relevant stakeholders.

- Leverage data analytics and technology to support predictive risk modeling and strengthen risk identification.

- Collaborate closely with underwriting, portfolio management, credit administration, and second-line risk stakeholders to align business practices with regulatory expectations.

- Manage multiple priorities and respond proactively to emerging credit, regulatory, and market risks.

- Perform additional risk management and commercial credit responsibilities as business needs evolve.

Requirements:

- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Economics, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and professional experience.

- Master’s degree is preferred.

- 12+ years of experience in regulatory compliance, lending, loan review, risk management, or related roles, preferably within banking or financial services.

- 12+ years of commercial credit experience, including exposure to alternative energy, working capital, asset-based lending, equipment finance, leasing, and government-guaranteed lending.

- Deep knowledge of commercial credit program design, regulatory requirements, and enterprise risk management practices.

- Strong ability to interpret and apply regulations, including regulatory risk-rating criteria and established risk management standards.

- Strong analytical and data interpretation skills, with the ability to assess how regulatory or market changes may affect credit products and programs.

- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders across different functions and levels of seniority.

- Proactive and solutions-oriented mindset, with the ability to anticipate regulatory and market developments and translate them into appropriate credit program actions.

- Strong critical-thinking and problem-solving skills, particularly when addressing complex or evolving risk challenges.

- Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain a risk-aware approach while supporting business objectives.

- Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and operate effectively in a fast-paced environment.

- Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to provide constructive challenge while maintaining productive business relationships.

- Experience working across first-line and second-line risk functions is valuable.
