About the role

As a Surfacing Track Machine Operator, you'll play a key role in maintaining and improving Victoria’s rail network, helping to ensure safe and reliable services for our customers and communities. Operating specialised track machinery including tampers and regulators, you'll support maintenance and renewal projects across a variety of locations throughout Victoria. This is a hands on role that offers a great mix of machine operation, track infrastructure work, and ongoing project involvement, with opportunities to contribute to business improvement initiatives while working within a supportive and safety-focused team culture. This position operates on a 10 days on, 4 days off roster with rotating day and night shifts and requires flexibility to work overtime and travel away from home when required.

About you
You're a safety conscious and motivated individual who enjoys hands on work and takes pride in delivering high-quality outcomes. With experience operating heavy machinery, ideally within rail, civil, construction, or infrastructure environments, you're comfortable working in a dynamic team setting and adapting to changing operational needs. You value collaboration, build positive working relationships, and remain focused on maintaining safety, reliability, and performance standards. A strong work ethic, willingness to work across regional Victoria, and a commitment to contributing to a supportive team culture will set you up for success in this role

Key accountabilities include :

- Safely operate the track machinery, Tampers and Regulators.
- Carry out resurfacing tasks as directed for the renewal or maintenance of the rail infrastructure.
- Participate in the replacement and renewal of track and crossing work materials i.e., sleepers, rail, ballast, and fastenings.
- Carry out routine inspections and basic maintenance of track machines.
- Establish and maintain a safe working environment ensures the safety and well-being of staff, the community, customers, rolling stock and the infrastructure.

To be considered for entry into the selection process for this role, applicants must meet the following 'key selection criteria' which forms part of our merit-based recruitment process:

- Current Driver’s Licence

·         Cert II in Rail Infrastructure - Mandatory

·         Current Safe Working Certificate - personal track safety

·         Sound awareness of the operation of the Pandrol Jackson tamper

·         The successful candidate must be an experienced Tamper Operator and/ or Regulator Operator with the required Track Vehicle Operator Competencies (TVO1).

·         Strong rail network experience and Enterprise Agreement application experience (highly desirable)

Remuneration for this position will be in line with the V/Line Rail Asset Management Enterprise Agreement 2023 and paid as an  IMW (TRACK) 2.2.
