Job Title: Nuclear Engineer Job Description This Nuclear Engineer role focuses on supporting the development of engineering analysis software and performing technical evaluations under the supervision of senior engineering staff. You apply standard engineering methods and nuclear or mechanical engineering principles to assess plant performance, safety, and reliability. You work closely with project teams, follow established Quality Assurance procedures, and communicate effectively with clients and other disciplines to ensure accurate, reliable, and compliant technical deliverables. Responsibilities
- Support the development of engineering analysis software by applying nuclear or mechanical engineering principles and standard computational methods.
- Gather, organize, and verify technical data and information needed for engineering analyses and modeling activities.
- Manipulate and prepare data for analysis input, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and proper formatting for software tools and models.
- Perform standard computations and engineering analyses related to nuclear power, thermal hydraulics, and plant performance.
- Assist in the construction of radiological dose and atmospheric dispersion models using appropriate tools and methodologies.
- Conduct investigations into technical issues or problems, identify root causes, and propose engineering solutions or corrective actions.
- Check and validate straightforward computations and analysis results to ensure consistency with project requirements and engineering standards.
- Perform programming tasks to support analysis tools, data processing, and model development, following established coding and documentation practices.
- Develop and assist with calculations that evaluate plant performance, safety margins, and reliability, in accordance with project procedures.
- Confirm project requirements, including input data and expected outputs, with the supervising engineer or client to ensure alignment and clarity.
- Apply and follow project Quality Assurance procedures in all assigned tasks, maintaining thorough documentation and traceability.
- Coordinate and interface with other engineering disciplines to integrate analysis results and support multi-disciplinary project objectives.
- Communicate effectively with clients and project stakeholders to clarify technical requirements, present findings, and address questions.
Essential Skills
- Nuclear Engineering degree or equivalent academic background in nuclear engineering.
- Technical knowledge in nuclear engineering or mechanical engineering disciplines, with the ability to apply core principles to plant analysis and modeling.
- General software development skills, including programming capabilities to support engineering tools and data processing.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to investigate issues, analyze data, and develop practical engineering solutions.
- Working knowledge of standard engineering methods, techniques, procedures, and criteria used in nuclear or mechanical analysis.
- Experience or familiarity with nuclear power systems and related engineering concepts.
- Understanding of thermal hydraulics and its application to nuclear plant performance and safety analyses.
- Ability to follow and apply project Quality Assurance procedures in all technical work.
- Effective client interface and communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
- Ability to coordinate and collaborate with other engineering disciplines on project teams.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with nuclear analysis codes and tools such as RETRAN and RELAP for thermal-hydraulic and transient analysis.
- Familiarity with Scale/Origen for reactor physics, fuel cycle, or radiological assessments.
- Experience using microshield for shielding calculations and dose rate evaluations.
- Knowledge of hotspot or similar tools for hotspot analysis and radiological dose assessment.
- Ability to construct radiological dose and atmospheric dispersion models using industry-standard approaches.
- Experience performing programming tasks related to engineering analysis software and data manipulation.
- Strong attention to detail when checking computations and validating analysis results.
- Ability to confirm and refine project requirements with supervisors or clients to ensure accurate and targeted analyses.
Work Environment You work in a professional engineering environment focused on nuclear power, plant safety, and performance analysis. The role involves close collaboration with senior engineers and multi-disciplinary project teams, using specialized nuclear analysis codes and tools such as RETRAN, RELAP, Scale/Origen, microshield, and hotspot. You follow established project Quality Assurance procedures and documentation standards, and you regularly interact with clients to clarify requirements and present technical results. The work is primarily office-based, with extensive use of computers and engineering software, and requires careful attention to detail, structured communication, and adherence to formal engineering and QA processes.

This is a Contract position based out of Raleigh, NC.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $70.00 - $80.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
