Job Title: Payroll Tax Consultant Job Description The Payroll Tax Consultant plays a key role in ensuring accurate, compliant, and timely payroll tax processing across a complex multi-entity environment. This position focuses on researching and resolving payroll tax notices and discrepancies, managing tax payments and filings for multiple FEINs, and supporting quarter-end and year-end activities. Responsibilities
- Research and resolve payroll tax notices, discrepancies, and compliance-related issues to ensure accurate reporting and adherence to regulatory requirements.
- Manage payroll tax payments and filings across multiple FEINs, ensuring timely submission and proper allocation of tax liabilities.
- Perform payroll tax reconciliations and analyze taxable wage calculations to identify and correct variances.
- Review garnishments, wage attachments, and related payment requests to ensure proper setup, calculation, and remittance.
- Provide guidance on complex payroll scenarios and regulatory requirements, acting as a subject matter expert for payroll tax and compliance questions.
- Support quarter-end and year-end payroll processing activities, including tax reconciliations and reporting.
- Assist with day-to-day payroll operations in a multi-entity environment, helping to maintain accurate and timely payroll cycles.
- Support payroll processing for more than 50 locations operating under separate FEINs, ensuring consistency and compliance across entities.
- Manage ACH file submissions, positive pay files, and other banking-related payroll activities to support secure and efficient payment processing.
- Research and resolve outstanding payroll issues while ensuring timely payroll delivery to all locations.
- Partner with site-level HR, payroll, and benefits staff to address escalated payroll matters and provide clear, solutions-focused support.
- Support the organization’s transition to UKG Pro, including activities related to the planned system go-live.
- Assist with parallel payroll testing, validation, and reconciliation to confirm data accuracy and system readiness.
- Troubleshoot payroll system issues and help identify process improvements that enhance efficiency and compliance.
- Collaborate with payroll, HR, and systems teams to ensure a smooth implementation of UKG Pro and alignment of processes.
- Provide recommendations regarding payroll treatment of special payments, grants, and unique compensation scenarios, ensuring appropriate tax handling.
- Help stabilize the payroll function during staffing transitions and organizational changes, including acquisitions and entity consolidations.
- Document payroll and payroll tax processes and support knowledge transfer across the payroll team to promote consistency and continuity.
Essential Skills
- Strong expertise in payroll tax, including research, reconciliation, and resolution of tax notices and discrepancies.
- Hands-on experience managing payroll tax payments and filings across multiple FEINs in a multi-entity environment.
- Proficiency in analyzing taxable wage calculations and performing detailed payroll tax reconciliations.
- Experience reviewing and administering garnishments, wage attachments, and related payment requests.
- Ability to provide guidance on complex payroll scenarios and regulatory requirements, serving as a subject matter expert.
- Experience supporting quarter-end and year-end payroll processing, including tax reporting and reconciliation.
- Demonstrated capability in day-to-day payroll operations for multiple locations and entities.
- Experience with ACH file submissions, positive pay files, and banking-related payroll activities tied to payroll processing.
- Strong problem-solving skills for researching and resolving outstanding payroll issues while maintaining timely delivery.
- Experience partnering with HR, payroll, and benefits teams to resolve escalated payroll matters.
- Practical experience with UKG Pro or similar enterprise payroll systems, particularly in implementation, testing, and troubleshooting.
- Ability to perform parallel payroll testing, validation, and reconciliation during system transitions.
- Ability to recommend appropriate payroll treatment for special payments, grants, and unique compensation arrangements.
- Strong documentation skills to capture processes and support knowledge transfer across the payroll team.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working in a multi-entity organization with numerous locations and separate FEINs.
- Experienced in supporting payroll functions through organizational changes such as acquisitions and entity consolidations.
- Experience contributing to system implementations and process improvement initiatives within payroll operations.
- Comfort working as a high level resource and advisor to cross-functional teams, including HR and systems groups.
- Strong communication skills to explain complex payroll tax and compliance concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- High attention to detail and accuracy when handling tax calculations, filings, and reconciliations.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with distributed teams.

This is a Contract position based out of Minneapolis, MN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $55.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
