About this role
Position Objective: The Biological Scientist will provide support services to satisfy the overall operational objectives of the National Cancer Institute within the National Institutes of Health.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct laboratory-based research on the molecular biology of cancer. 1
- Receive tumor surgery specimens from the Lab of Pathology Tissue Procurement Facility, that are assigned for research. 2
- Prepare single-cell suspensions for single-cell RNA-sequencing following the lab-established protocol. 3
- Coordinate with the CCR Single Cell Analysis Facility for their library generation and sequencing.
- Extract DNA and/or RNA from FFPE tissue specimens.
- Process FFPE tissues into single-cell suspensions using the lab-established protocol, and generate single-cell NGS libraries based on the need of each project.
- Maintain human cell line cultures in order to help on-going research when necessary.
- Perform other collaborative studies that result in technical reports and information to advance cancer research.
- Assist with routine maintenance of the lab equipment and supplies.
- Attend regular lab/group meetings within and beyond the Lab of Pathology, Genomic Pathology Section.
- Participate in discussion, initial data analysis, and developing further investigations in light of findings, accomplishments, and future mission objectives.
- Complete all required and additional trainings
- Work products and documents related to conducting laboratory-based research on the molecular biology of cancer; preparing single-cell suspensions for single-cell sequencing following the lab established protocol; extracting DNA and/or RNA from FFPE tissue specimens.
- Work products and documents related to receiving tumor surgery specimens from the Lab of Pathology
- Tissue Procurement Facility, that are assigned for research; coordinating with the CCR Single Cell Analysis Facility for their library generation and sequencing.
- Work products and documents related to processing FFPE tissues into single-cell suspensions using the lab-established protocol, and generate single-cell NGS libraries based on the need of each project; maintaining human cell line cultures in order to help on-going research when necessary
- Work products and documents related to performing other collaborative studies that result in technical reports and information to advance cancer research; assisting with routine maintenance of the lab equipment and supplies; participating in discussion, initial data analysis, and developing further investigations in light of findings, accomplishments, and future mission objectives.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
- Ph.D. degree in Biology, Life Sciences or a related discipline
- Minimum of 3 yrs exp in cell biology, cancer biology, or related scientific research field
- Skilled in MS Office Suite
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with non-technical and technical staff
- Detail-oriented and possess strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and projects
