Job Title: Electrical Designer Job Description
The Electrical Designer will contribute to the design and engineering of building electrical systems, focusing on power distribution, low-voltage infrastructure, and lighting solutions. This role combines detailed technical design work with field surveys and construction support, and offers the opportunity to work on capital expenditure projects across multiple states within a close-knit, family-oriented team.
Responsibilities
- Design power distribution systems, including the development of riser diagrams and panel schedules.
- Create low-voltage infrastructure designs to support IT and security systems.
- Develop lighting designs, including fixture selection, lighting controls, and performing lighting calculations.
- Design low-voltage systems such as fire alarm, security, and controls.
- Calculate electrical loads, fault current, and voltage drop to ensure safe and efficient system performance.
- Perform field surveys to gather existing conditions and verify design requirements.
- Provide construction phase support, including responding to contractor questions and assisting with design clarifications.
- Collaborate closely with project teams to integrate electrical designs with other disciplines.
- Maintain accurate and organized design documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
Essential Skills
- Engineer-In-Training (EIT) or Engineer Intern (EI) certification.
- At least 2 years of electrical design experience.
- Proficiency in electrical design principles for power distribution, lighting, and low-voltage systems.
- Experience using Revit for electrical design and documentation.
- Strong teamwork skills with the ability to collaborate in a dynamic, team-oriented environment.
- Effective communication skills to support internal collaboration and client relationships.
- Strong client relationship skills with a professional and service-oriented approach.
- Solid organizational skills and attention to detail in managing multiple tasks and projects.
- Demonstrated strong work ethic and reliability in meeting project deadlines and quality standards.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience designing low-voltage infrastructure for IT and security systems.
- Background in lighting design, including fixture selection, lighting controls, and lighting calculations.
- Experience with low-voltage systems such as fire alarm, security, and controls.
- Ability to perform field surveys and translate findings into accurate design documents.
- Ability to provide construction phase support and coordinate effectively with project stakeholders.
- Comfort working on capital expenditure projects across multiple states.
- Ability to thrive in a small, collaborative engineering team environment.
Work Environment
This role is based in a small, approximately 10-person office with a bullpen-style layout that encourages collaboration and open communication. Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lawrence, KS.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $35.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
