MANTECH seeks a motivated, career and customer-oriented Senior Payroll Accountant to join our team in Herndon VA. This position requires it to be on site at least 3 days a week.
The Senior Payroll Accountant will leverage their strong technical background and knowledge to ensure the accurate and timely processing of payroll within a dynamic government contracting environment. You will handle complex payroll tasks, provide guidance on regulations, and ensure strict compliance with all applicable laws including prevailing wage requirements and multi-state taxation.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Payroll Inquiries & Customer Support: Serve as the primary contact for payroll-related inquiries, managing Service Now tickets while providing expert guidance on company policies, timekeeping, and general payroll matters.
- End-to-End Garnishment Management: Manage all garnishment processes, including Workday setups, ledger balancing, ADP vendor coordination, termination notices, and serving as the subject matter expert for garnishment-related matters.
- On-Site Operations & Data Integrity: Manage daily on-site physical payroll mail receipt and organization, fully trained to execute full-cycle payroll processing back-up, audit tax reciprocity rules, review relocation expense lists to calculate taxable vs. non-taxable costs, process imputed income for tax withholdings, and maintain core data integrity(Payroll Inputs).
- Lifecycle Events & Report Validations: Oversee employee lifecycle processing, including daily termination report reviews, final pay and off-cycle check process per state provisions, and daily validations for new hire, primary address change, and leave reports & resolve outstanding issues.
- Accounting, Reconciliations & Statutory Reporting: Assist on labor distribution reconciliation, perform payroll tax deduction reconciliations against ADP invoices and provide ledgers, and manage statutory compliance filings including monthly labor statistics and quarterly multiple worksite reports.
- Process Improvement & System Enhancements: Handle the development of payroll documentation as needed, implement process improvements, and test new payroll technologies to enhance compliance and operational efficiency.
- Team Collaboration & Training: Provide comprehensive training and cross-functional support to junior staff and team members across general payroll, tax filings, garnishment and special projects as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field preferred with 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in payroll within a government contracting environment.
- Significant experience with multi-state payroll processing and Garnishment & tax compliance.
- Proficiency in payroll software and timekeeping systems, Deltek Costpoint and/or Workday Payroll a must.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Adobe Acrobat.
- Ability to manage payrolls for > 1500 employees
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Self-Starter with excellent communication and interpersonal skills to resolve complex timekeeping & Payroll discrepancies.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification.
- Ability to manage payrolls for > 3000 employees

Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
- Needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets and office machinery.
- Frequently communicates with co-workers, management, and customers, which may involve delivering presentations.
- Be able to exchange accurate information about complex situations.
The projected compensation range for this position is $88,200.00-$147,200.00. There are differentiating factors that can impact a final salary/hourly rate, including, but not limited to, Contract Wage Determination, relevant work experience, skills and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location (For Remote Opportunities), education and certifications as well as Federal Government Contract Labor categories.
