Job Title: Industrial Engineer Job Description This Industrial Engineer role supports a high-volume manufacturing operation by developing and optimizing production processes, material flow, inventory analysis, and assembly line layouts within a complex equipment platform. The position focuses on applying lean methodologies to increase productivity, enhance product and process quality, and drive continuous improvement across manufacturing flow lines, production cells, materials management, and overall production systems. The ideal professional works in a self-managed, flexible, and service-oriented manner, demonstrates strong integrity and professionalism, and is willing to travel occasionally (<10%) across North America, South America, Europe, and Asia. Responsibilities
- Develop and optimize manufacturing processes, production flow, and assembly line layouts to increase productivity and efficiency in a labor-intensive manufacturing operation.
- Analyze inventory, production planning, and material flow to identify opportunities for improvement and implement effective solutions.
- Maintain and enhance the use of lean methods and tools, including lean manufacturing principles, to reduce waste and improve operational performance.
- Design methods and procedures that ensure product and process quality, aligning manufacturing practices with engineering and customer requirements.
- Create and update process procedures, develop accurate flow charts, and perform detailed time studies to support standardized work and process optimization.
- Determine material flow, material presentation, and operation sequences, and identify inefficiencies in existing material processes to drive excellence in manufacturing.
- Perform mathematical calculations and quantitative analyses to select and refine the best manufacturing processes and configurations.
- Evaluate the impact of product design changes on manufacturability and recommend design or process adjustments to maintain efficient production.
- Establish, determine, and maintain key performance indicator (KPI) standards for manufacturing operations and monitor performance against these metrics.
- Conduct and analyze time and motion studies to identify waste in production processes and recommend improvements based on lean and continuous improvement principles.
- Resolve production and information system problems by troubleshooting issues proactively and reactively, and implementing sustainable corrective actions.
- Leverage expertise to contribute to the team’s project funnel and priority list, routinely identifying, scoring, and prioritizing new opportunities for improvement.
- Bring and integrate new skills, ideas, and perspectives into a team rooted in continuous improvement, collaborating with others to deliver maximum value to the organization and its customers.
- Support the development of both junior and senior team members by sharing expertise, perspectives, and best practices to foster growth and capability within the industrial engineering team.
- Assist with and perform cost analyses related to manufacturing processes, materials, and production plans to support data-driven decision-making.
- Travel occasionally (less than 10%) within North America, South America, Europe, and Asia to support manufacturing operations and improvement initiatives.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
- At least ten (10) years of experience in industrial engineering or a closely related discipline.
- Strong mechanical and structural aptitude with the ability to read and interpret blueprints.
- Demonstrated expert ability to troubleshoot proactively and reactively, identifying practical solutions and improvements to complex manufacturing issues.
- Proven track record in manufacturing process development and enhancement, with experience leading or contributing to complex manufacturing projects involving large stakeholder groups.
- Industrial engineering expertise with a focus on process improvement, assembly processes, and material flow optimization.
- Hands-on experience performing and analyzing time studies and time and motion studies in a production environment.
- Proficiency in lean manufacturing principles and tools, including lean methods, Kaizen, and continuous improvement practices.
- Strong understanding of KPI development, measurement, and maintenance for manufacturing operations.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts clearly to diverse stakeholders.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a practical, hands-on approach in a manufacturing setting.
- Proficiency in Excel and other analytical tools for data analysis and process evaluation.
- Energetic, well-organized, and able to work in a self-managed and service-oriented manner with high levels of integrity and professionalism.

- Experience working on complex manufacturing projects that involve cross-functional teams and large stakeholder groups.
- Background in lean Six Sigma methodologies and continuous improvement frameworks.
- Experience conducting cost analysis, production planning, and inventory analysis to support operational decisions.
- Ability to design and optimize plant layouts, assembly line layouts, and material flow plans for large production environments.
- Capability to write clear process procedures and develop accurate flow charts that support standardized work and training.
- Experience evaluating product design changes for their impact on manufacturability and recommending design-for-manufacturing improvements.
- Comfort working in a fast-paced, labor-intensive manufacturing environment with a focus on operational excellence.
- Interest in helping build and shape an industrial engineering team, contributing to its structure, practices, and culture.
- Ability and willingness to travel occasionally (less than 10%) domestically and internationally to support global manufacturing operations.

Work Environment The role is based in a large production and manufacturing environment located in Sparrows Point, MD. The work is primarily performed on-site in a facility focused on equipment manufacturing and labor-intensive operations. Standard hours are Monday through Friday during normal business hours, providing a predictable schedule. The environment involves close collaboration with production teams, exposure to manufacturing equipment, and active participation in process observation and improvement activities. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Edgemere, MD.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $62.50 - $84.14/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
